My main issues with this shop are the attitude of the staff, and the hygiene of the food & spices. This shop has a lot of things that you can't find anywhere else in a shop in Perth (though of course you could find it on eBay). My main problem with these people is how rude some of the staff are. The attitude towards some of the people is quite disdainful. I also have noted that they are rather homophobic. Some of the staff are very friendly, of course and you get a mix, but personally I would not go back there. A few years ago I got some cheese from the deli area. The girl who cut the cheese was obviously sick and she was somewhat sharp. I think she sneezed on her hand before she wrapped the cheese. I took the cheese, not wanting to cause a problem. That person should not have been working there. I later developed quite a bad cold. I didn't go back there for some time after that, but eventually did. There have been many other incidents with the staff, but I won't go into it. Another thing is that you often see people (mostly people from non-Western backgrounds) with their hands in the food and spice bins taking samples. That is very unhygienic. I have often said to people that they should not have their hands touching the consumables. I got some prunes from there a little while ago and there was black Oriental hair in it. If someone left the lid off the bin then the hair might of floated in there. I don't know. My mother once saw a man with his fingers swirling around in the sunflower seeds as if he was checking out the texture and my mother never forgot that. She never bought anything else...
Read moreI am a Baker and have been practicing a lot lately to produce a different and tastier quality sourdough breads and pastries. But for that I need spices ( lots of them ) grains and flours. And that's where I head out. I get to stock on all my pantry essentials for baking @ wholesale prices. I eat lots and lots of Hummus and make my Falafels from scratch, and to my surprise they had both chickpeas and split Fava beans on offer at less than half price what I was buying at the big stores, even speciality stores. And the beauty is I don't have to buy a whole kilo or pre- packaged stuff. It's all old school " Baby ", you pay for what you buy by weight. These people have been around for yonks and they know their stuff. They even have fresh roasted coffee on premises, Greek cheese, Olives and Tarama. Don't be surprised like me when you find ingredients for a recipe that your grandmother used to make. Oh and I am not a spring 🐔. How's...
Read moreWhat a Joke! Because of the Problems on the palm oil extraction in Indonesia and Thailand, is affecting the lives of Orang-utans which are native to those areas. The Kakoulas shop decided to stop selling palm oil products from places like brazil where it is totally sustainable and by the way, there are no Orang-utans! Little they know that Palm is a genre of Trees, which includes açaí, Coconut and many other varieties. The palm oil produced at the orang-utans forest is totally different from the ones produced by the Dendê Palm tree from Brazil. I was advised that no palm products was to be sold over there anymore. They still sell the "heart of palms", Açaí, and many Coconut products... Total Ignorance, lack of education of over opinionated people. During the era of information where you have the world on your mobile phone, this kind of mistake is unacceptable. Get some...
