Ezra Pound — Restaurant in Northbridge

I am not at all in the habit of leaving reviews for places. The fact that I am writing this should therefore be indicative of just how poor of an experience I had at this venue. I have visited Ezra Pound on numerous occasions, all of which had been positive experiences. That was until about three weeks ago where I had what was easily the worst interaction I have ever had at a licensed venue in Perth.

I arrived there with my dad on a Saturday night, neither of us had been drinking, although we had been at the football. We were met with possibly the rudest bar manager I have ever met, who seemed to think that being in such a position gave him some unassailable status. He stopped my dad when he had stopped no one else before or after us from entering the venue. He proceeded to aggressively ask my dad a series of demeaning and invasive questions, clearly in an attempt to ascertain how much he had to drink. When my dad give pushback to this, this "manager" smugly told him that he was being too aggressive and he needed to "protect" the other patrons from him. Upon further discussion, this person said he stopped my dad initially because he didn't say hello to him, as if this is somehow normal behaviour to say hello to someone you have never met. This was particularly ironic given the number of people who walked through without such interaction being required.

In short, it was clear to me they targeted him because it was a Saturday and they did not want someone of his age "ruining" their reputation as a hip bar. The condescension and rudeness with which this person interacted with us was nothing short of disgraceful. From someone who used to really enjoy going to this bar, I was extremely disappointed to be treated in such an appalling way.

Awful customer service by Grace!!!

I had a look at the menu and felt like having a glass of while wine. So I ordered a wine called something blanc but as there was no description, i had to rely on the word 'Blanc'. The wine was served and somehow it was very cloudy and tasted like it was off. As i have never seen any clouded white wine with off-smell and taste, i went back to the bar and ask what it is. ( It wasn't something i could drink as taste was very unique and not a traditional wine at all) The lady bar mate called Grace said this is a special wine and very popular and she almost sounded like, this is a new cooooool wine and everyone likes it but what is wrong with you?? I have been drinking wine for more than her age poasibly but she is trying to give me a lesson. She offered me other normal wine, pinot grigio and it was okay to drink. And she said you need to pay for it as well as the smelly wine that i could not drink. I paid for both and left the wine on the bar as i was not going to drink it. Normally bar tenders around the area are nice enough to explain about the drink if it has a unique love or hate flavour and replace with a new one but she did not put any effort and looked down on me as a someone who does not know anything about the wine. Obviously her rudeness and carelessness ruined my day and won't go back again. Grace, i have tasted from 5 dollars to over 200 dollars wines before and i know what is acceptable or not. Have to say group of friends and myself were extremely disappointed with our experience here, given the reviews. It is a quirky little bar however, the walkway to the bar unfortunately reeks of urine smell ... sofas / seats were rather uncomfortable. All of which we would still be able to stomach if service was good but sadly - bar tender was rude and inflexible. We love cocktails and have been to many bars and first time experiencing a bar tender who appeared to be judgemental and totally unaccommodating! Won't be returning. There are plenty of bars around with way better customer service and doesn't stink or make you feel uncomfortable...we are paying customers after all!!!
