!! Important for people with the Welcome Card Plus !! Apparently you have to go to the Innsbruck Station Congress of the hungerburgbahn first to get your free ticket!! Despite what the Welcome Card website says the barcode on it does NOT open te gates of the Seegrubebahn and if you try to get a ticket at the talstation you only get a 20% discount.
Review: We were aware the hungerburgbahn was not included in our Welcome Card so we bought tickets for that and went up to the talstation of the seegrubebahn (Nordkette cable car to the bergstation) from one of the train's intermediate stops. We also were aware the Hafelekar cable car also was not included. But the website that the Welcome Card links to clearly said that you should be able to enter the Seegrubebahn by scanning your card. Despite multiple times of looking around on the website of the Nordketten bahn before we went we did not come across any clear indication of having to go to the station congress. This is very poorly designed and feels like the information is unclear on purpose so more people with Welcome Cards are forced to pay the full/20% discount price.
Not only that, the guy at the ticket station of the seegrubebahn was rather dismissive. We tried to ask why our card didn't work, and he looked at us like we were stupid and vaguely pointed at some seemingly irrelevant information stickers on the window saying we could only get a 20% discount for the full 'top of innsbruck' route. He would not explain what went wrong and never even mentioned the congress station. We tried to explain we just wanted a one-way ticket up for the seegrubebahn because we planned to just hike down. But he did not listen and only kept saying we could get the full retour ride to the top (I am assuming that includes the hungerburgbahn and nordkette cable car, which we both did not need. Looked it up afterwards and for the regular one-way hungerburg - seegrube ticket we should have been able to pay 20 euros instead of the 37 euros the guy made us pay). We were already stressed out and the dismissive hurried attitude of this guy plus him insisting we should get the full ticket made us panic and quickly buy that ticket. We wanted to get out of that unpleasant interaction as quickly as possible due to his attitude. I had an anxiety attack later due to this interaction (the guy didn't yell but still completely dismissed us, we felt like we just purposefully got scammed by him).
When we arrived at the seegrube bergstation we asked the girl at the ticket office there for clarification since we had confirmed online that we should have been able to take the cable cart for free. She was kind and helpful and actually tried her best to explain what went wrong. Unlike the other guy. To that girl: thank you, we appreciate you were kind to us in that moment.
The cable car worked and the girl was nice, that earns you the star. But we feel like the information we needed was purposefully withheld from us in the city (we saw no information signs about it), on the website, and even by a person whose job it is to be able to provide it! We feel like we were pressured into spending 77 euros just because the cable car company does not like losing money on Welcome Card deals. That is very disappointing and honestly ridiculous. The tickets are already rather expensive compared to most cable cars we have been on. We hope the company and the Welcome Card department will get together and make sure all information provided by both of the companies is the same! Having different information is not acceptable. According to other reviews we are not the first to deal with rude staff due to misunderstanding the Welcome Card's information. It is the responsibility of the company to make sure that does not happen!
And to the dutch guy who 'helped' us at the ticket office at the bottom of the seegrubebahn: If you do not like your job and do not like dealing with tourists who have been misinformed (something I suspect happens quite a lot) - get a different job. We got the impression you did not enjoy...
Read moreComplaint about unacceptable treatment at your lift attraction
We visited your lift attraction on August 12th, 2025, (we went up about 12 o clock and down 14.40 when we meet your rude staff) as a family of six. Unfortunately, our experience was extremely disappointing and left us shocked by the way we were treated.
First, I want to thank the kind female employee at the restaurant one stop before the top, who was very friendly and considerate. However, once we reached the top and were preparing to go back down, the situation changed completely.
After waiting in the sun for about an hour, we encountered a male employee (yellow/red hair) who treated us, and other guests, with complete disrespect. When I attempted to pass through the gate with a stroller, the system locked and separated me from it. In the absence of any visible staff and under pressure from the crowd, I bent under the gate to reach my stroller. At that moment, the employee ran over and aggressively confronted me. I explained that there were no clear signs or staff assistance on how to pass with a stroller, but he ignored this.
Inside the lift, he continued by shouting aggressively at guests to “squeeze together.” When my husband asked him to address people more politely, the employee verbally attacked us, claiming he was “the boss” and threatening to deny us the use of the lift – despite us paying over €100 for tickets. He also insulted us in German and argued with other customers.
This behavior completely ruined the last day of our holiday in Austria. It was not only unprofessional but also unacceptable for a tourist attraction charging such high prices. Even the ticket office staff were unfriendly, which added to the poor impression.
I strongly advise management to review this incident (which should be visible on your surveillance footage) and take immediate steps to improve staff training, customer service, and clear signage for families with strollers. At present, I cannot recommend this...
Read moreMy visit to the Nordkette Cable Car in 2018 was an absolutely breathtaking experience that left me in awe of the natural beauty of the Austrian Alps. Situated in Innsbruck, Austria, this remarkable cable car system offers an unforgettable journey to the Nordkette mountain range, providing stunning panoramic views and access to some of the most captivating landscapes in the region.
The ascent itself was an adventure filled with anticipation as the cable car smoothly glided up the mountain, offering progressively stunning vistas of the city and the surrounding countryside. The modern design and safety of the cable car provided reassurance and allowed me to fully immerse myself in the awe-inspiring scenery.
Arriving at the top, I was greeted by an unobstructed 360-degree view of the majestic Alps. The feeling of being surrounded by such majestic peaks was truly humbling and gave me a profound appreciation for the wonders of nature. The viewing platforms and walking trails at the summit allowed for leisurely exploration and ample photo opportunities.
The summit station, with its contemporary architecture, offered a comfortable and welcoming environment to relax and savor the moment. The onsite restaurant provided a delightful selection of regional dishes and refreshments, allowing me to enjoy a delicious meal with a stunning backdrop.
For the more adventurous, there were opportunities for hiking and mountaineering in the surrounding area, adding an element of thrill to the experience. Even for those who preferred a more relaxed visit, the cable car ride and the serene ambiance of the mountaintop were still...
