Be careful of the tourist trap!! We mistakenly enter the museum from the top, and took the lift down. We were not stopped by any barrier and didn’t see any significant signs either. Then suddenly we couldn’t get out and there was a guy asking us to pay 6 euros(3 each)for using the elevator!! We explained the situation and proposed to go back to the top, while the staff refused to listen and said it would even cost more for us to go back. He threatened to call the police and accused that our behavior was stealing. Whatever we said he just repeated “6 euros”. I was extremely irritated and decided to wait for the police to come. Two young people passed by and gave him the money to let us out. tbh 3 euros is not unaffordable but you cannot mislead customers with invisible signs and then ask for money after they enter the trap!! I saw the earliest review warning people of this was posted 4 years ago, so the museum must have kept the trap on purpose to rip off customers. It’s my first day in Salzburg and I am surprised by how the tourism industry in a city famous for music and Mozart can be so shameless and greedy that they would make money in such an indecent way!! Would cancel my plan tmr and hope to...

The Talstation of the elevator is conveniently situated near Salzburg’s old town, making it easily accessible on foot from many of the city’s main attractions.

The elevator ride itself is an experience. In just under a minute, it transports passengers from the bustling streets of Salzburg up to the tranquil heights of Mönchsberg. Once at the top, you are rewarded with stunning panoramic views of Salzburg. The vantage point offers a breathtaking perspective of the city's baroque architecture, the Salzach River, and the surrounding Alps.

The medieval Hohensalzburg Fortress can be accessed via a pleasant walk from the elevator. For those interested in nature, the Mönchsberg's walking trails are perfect for a leisurely stroll amidst lush greenery and peaceful surroundings.

Staying at the nearby Schloss Mönchstein was a delightful bonus, as we enjoyed complimentary rides on the elevator, making our visit even more convenient...

I am really sorry that I and my wife just had an extremly bad experience over here on 2 Jan 2020 evening. After we visited the top and returned to the main entrance via the lift, we could not get outside and the staff in the ticket counter did not provide any help and just said “I have asked you before and you said just going up”. After paying the surcharge for downward lift fee, he threw the new tickets to us and remain seated to enjoy his cakes (the office can check the CCTV to verify that). As a tourist, I understand miscommunication due to language barrier cannot be avoided. But as a frequent traveller I don’t think it is a big problem which we are living in a global world. I hope this message can let the office understand how your staff’s attitude would adversely damage your city’s and...

A minute ride up the cliff in an elevator built inside of it, brings a lovely view of the city and it's surroundings. Worth the price to go up and down!
