Paradise Shopping Plaza — Local services in New Providence

Beautiful place, friendly people, nice clear blue waters. But very expensive here at Atlantis Paradise Island. The prices are already tripled by US standards then they add 7.5% tax, plus an additional 15% gratuity on everything. For a family of 5 you will spend between $300 to $500 per day on meals alone. Souvenirs and other side expenses also add up. Tours and side excursions, plan on about $250.00 per person per event. Some tours are full inclusive, some are not. Be careful of the lady who lurks around the Beach Hut store. Remember 2 things- tourists stick out like a sore thumb (you) and the locals want your money. This lady ambushed me and my family and gave us a big welcome and then proceeded to give us "free" Bahamas bracelets. Then she stood there and demanded a donation. I had to fumble around for some money to give her $5 to go away where she retreated to the inside of the Beach Hut store. Sorry but the troll under the bridge in the kids tale Billy goats gruff comes...

Hands down the best $200 we spent while on our trip to Nassau. The boat ride out to the Exumas can be rather rough, but it is truly worth it when you arrive. The Exuma Islands has breathtaking beauty and it honestly doesn't even feel like you on Earth. Feeding the iguanas and snorkeling off the reef was a fantastic treat. Lunch is provided and if you are lucky, you will be able to feed the local sharks on the island....
