This was our first dinner on the island for our recent vacation. My wife made the reservation at 7pm and we were greeted and seated right as we arrived, on time.
Our waiter did take a while to come get our drink orders, it was our first night and we had no idea we could choose the free "house water" option. This may help fellow travels as none of the restaurant wait staff presents such option, and the bottled Fiji water are $10 a piece.
As other diners have mentioned, the service we experienced at this place was mediocre at best as well. There was a lot of waiting and not a lot of talking. After spending 5 days in Atlantis and at outside restaurant, we realize that this is just the Bahamian way, very different from the U.S.
Prior to our meal, we were served a variety of bread: a raisin white bread, a simple focaccia, and an herb-infused brioche-like bun. We wished the bread were warm, but with fresh butter and flaked salt, they were all pretty tasty.
We shared the apple, pear and endive salad with blue cheese dressing as our appetizer. As you can see in the attached photo, the presentation is well done it was thoughtful for them to have pre-split the salad instead of having us do it ourselves at the table. I personally thought the blue cheese was a little overwhelming (it was just a giant ball of blue cheese on the plate rather than part of the dressing itself), but my wife liked it quite a bit.
Between the dishes, we were served a pineapple sorbet as palate cleanser, which is a nice touch.
Entree wise, I picked the pan roasted island grouper with mushroom broth and crispy rice. The fish itself was cooked perfectly, and the cubes of deep-fried rice added a nice contrast to the otherwise brothy and soft main course. The mushroom broth was fairly acidic, but in my opinion, it worked very well with the umami of the mushrooms (shiitake, portobello, and crimini). It may not be suitable for everyone, but I did enjoy it very much.
My wife ordered the seared duck breast with confit duck leg with a blackcurrant demi glaze reduction. The dish was served table side and presented beautifully. The duck was cooked per requested and very flavorful.
We were too full for dessert, but they served us a couple small bites of rum cakes, cookies and strawberry to finish.
This restaurant is romantic, beautifully situated at the Marina Village, overlooking the water with tasteful decor. However, the restaurant can get really loud during dinner.
The sub-par service is the only reason this place not receiving a 5-star from us. Overall, it is a restaurant we are willing to revisit, if we ever find ourselves back in this resort...
Read moreWe decided to find a nice place to eat for our last night while staying at the Atlantis Resort. We didn't have a reservation anywhere, and we were surprised when they found a table for us. Thank you to the hostess because it was the greatest dining experience of my nearly 50 years of life. David M. (He said there are two David's, so ask for David M.) took such good care of us, chatted us up, and made great recommendations. I had never been to a French/Parisian style restaurant, so his guidance through the menu greatly helped and we both ordered the filet mignon. Her's came with mushrooms and spinach while I substituted grilled asparagus, and both were served with French style mashed potatoes. When the meal came, I was a little shocked at the small portion sizes, but then remembered French dishes are served in smaller portions in order to savor small bites and really appreciate the flavor and texture of the food. That's exactly what I did, and every bite was like Christmas morning. The mixture of flavors was perfect, including what I believe to be a Bordelaise sauce. She had dessert, but I didn't want to eat anything else that would take away from the flavors still swirling in my senses, and eventually, my memory. I was not a fan of asparagus before this, and now I'm grilling it at home. ... If you read my other reviews, I will try to be thorough, but I don't go for the dramatic, so take this next statement for the value I intend. This meal was inspiring!!! I want to learn French style cooking now and even tried preparing the same type of mashed potatoes already. I know this place will be considered very pricey for some, and at $70 for a filet, you might scoff, but I implore you to find a way to justify it and go. Make sure to ask for David M. too. It will be a dinner you will never want to...
Read moreExtremely Disappointing Experience at Cafe Martinique
I recently visited Cafe Martinique with my family and unfortunately, it turned out to be an extremely disappointing experience. We had made a reservation through Atlantis almost two weeks in advance, and we even planned our accommodation accordingly. However, upon arrival, we were shocked to see a line of people waiting outside the restaurant.
To our dismay, the first thing the attendants told us was that "No kids are allowed under 7." This was surprising, considering it was already 7:15pm and we had a confirmed reservation. We were upset but decided to wait patiently, not wanting to cause any inconvenience to others in line. However, the attendants approached us again and claimed that there was no reservation under our name.
We were perplexed by this situation, as we had made all our reservations through Atlantis, and this was not the first time we had used their services. In the past, all our reservations went smoothly without any issues. It seemed unusual and quite discriminatory that this particular reservation had problems. First, they denied entry to children, then they claimed we had no reservation.
The behavior we encountered at Cafe Martinique was far from what one would expect from a high-end restaurant. Such mistreatment of customers is unacceptable, regardless of the establishment's status. Discrimination and inconsistent treatment left us feeling extremely disappointed.
We had high expectations for our dining experience at Cafe Martinique, but unfortunately, it fell short in terms of both service and customer care. We hope that the management takes this feedback seriously and addresses these issues to ensure a better experience for...
