As soon as we entered, we were greeted by very friendly staff and escorted to our table. I had reserved and it looks like booking a table here is a good idea as they were pretty busy. The restaurant calls itself the “upside down steakhouse”, I guess that is why some pictures are hung upside down. Interior is funky enough, featuring lots of cows. It is not meant for loitering though, when booking, customers are informed that they are allowed 60 minutes for lunch and 90 minutes for dinner.
As soon as we were sat down, we got the menus. There are exactly 3 mains and three desserts, and the drinks list is not very extensive either. We ordered a small beef steak with crispy fries ($8.00), a medium steak with mashed potatoes ($12.00) and a chicken steak with mashed potatoes ($6.00). For drinks, we went with a lime juice ($2.00), a water ($1.25), and a Angkor bottle for me ($2.50). All prices do include VAT but do not include 6% service charge.
Drinks arrived rapidly, though I do not know why the poor lady serving us had to climb the stairs three times to deliver three drinks. Oh, and a fourth time to bring the nice bread and the very nice herb butter.
The food arrived in less then 15 minutes. Whilst it did say on the medium that all beef steaks were served medium, we were asked how we wanted the cows done. I had asked for medium whilst the boy went for medium well (he doesn’t know better) and both steaks came out cooked correctly. All mains come with a lettuce salad and a vinaigrette. The salad was fresh and crunchy.
The boy had ordered crunchy fries. Not bad, but they could have been a tad crunchier. The mashed potatoes were homemade. Could have been mashed a little better, my better half had half a potato in her mash. They were also devoid of any salt and there was no salt on the tables, only pepper.
The chicken was really good, and I would go back for that. It is battered, not sure in what, and it was crispy on the outside and juicy and tender on the inside. We all agreed that the Missus made the best choice.
All dishes come with a Khmer pepper-lime sauce. It works very well with the chicken but not all that much with the beef. They do have other sauces available, at a cost.
The beer was cold, but I think they just waved a lime at the lime juice. I could hardly detect even a hint of lime.
The wife and the son ordered a lemon pie ($3.50) and an apple pie ($3.50). The apple pie did have a small piece of burnt crust but was otherwise very good. The lemon pie was also very good and, unlike the juice, there was plenty of citrus in there.
A pleasant meal overall. As mentioned, we will go back for the chicken steak and the pies. Service was good, atmosphere pleasant enough. Maybe not the best place for a long,...
Read moreThis restaurant is in a small alley, I was lose at first. I love this alley it is full of restaurants and lively. There small design also good. And they have a free appetizer bread and butter and it is good! For food: there menu is small they have beef steak, chicken steak, and broccoli. I don’t have menu in the photo but you can check on there social media. There menu are price base on size. For the taste it think everything good it delicious beef is not chewy but soft and smell good. But the problem is no sauce (they have free sauce though but it is a salt pepper sauce) if you want a steak sauce you need to add 1.5$. They have a free refill water which is good. For beef, idk what type of beef they are using but it just like our khmer normal beef with a good technique of grilling and make it good. For 250g is 16$ no sauce I think it is a bit expensive. Now it is a time for broccoli, I mean I’m Asia so eat this in this price are so expensive. I don’t know what I think when I order it, and yes it is just a broccoli nothing special. I don’t like it. Don’t be like me it just tastes like grill broccoli of causes. Service: great they are fast and smile! Great overall. Atmosphere: I understand that it is small. So you have to be careful if you eat there the table is small. Everything tight. When I go there, There are alot of foreigners and they are enjoying their time there which is so loud! My ear almost buzz my ear. Overall I recommend...
Read moreWe had a fantastic dining experience at this French restaurant in Phnom Penh. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. I had the pleasure of meeting one of the owners, Nicolas — a friendly and engaging Frenchman with a fascinating background, having lived all over the world. We shared stories, had a lovely glass together, and his hospitality made our evening even more special.
The food was delicious — rich in flavor and beautifully presented. Service was attentive without being intrusive, and the staff were perfectly bilingual were offering service either in Khmer or in English, which made everything smooth and easy.
The restaurant itself is clean, cozy, and both the menu and the space are incredibly kid-friendly, which we really appreciated.
It’s a perfect spot for an intimate date night or a relaxed family meal. We even connected with a few other guests who, like us, were traveling; or locals; and had similar stories to share. Altogether, a memorable evening —...
