We were excited to visit Garage Sale after the amazing Google reviews. When we arrived, we checked they took card as we had no cash on us. We ordered the poutine, chicken wings and two different flavours of chicken tenders. The chicken wings were over cooked - very hard and crispy. The buffalo chicken tenders had a nice flavour but were completely cold. The lemon pepper tenders were hot but an average flavour. The poutine was probably the worst - the chips tasted like old oil and the gravy was like a brown sludge. We ended up leaving half of the poutine because it was just that bad. We were disappointed by the food but it’s actually the treatment we received by the lady working there that led to us writing this review. When we came to pay by card, the machine was processing the payment for 5+ minutes - the card wasn’t declined, the machine just wasn’t processing anything. We tried two cards both contactless and chip and pin and the same thing kept happening. There was no apology from the waitress who just coldly told us that they never have issues with their card machine. We offered to leave photo ID and come back and pay later when their card machine would hopefully be working but she said we would have had to come back by 7pm (hours before the restaurant closed). We didn’t want our whole day’s plans to be messed around by what was already a disappointing lunch so my partner left to use the ATM. Once we had cash, we paid with USD and the waitress gave us back a mix of USD and Cambodian riel without saying anything to us, leaving us very confused and having to sort through and convert all the money to ensure we’d received the correct change. It would have been polite for her to explain what she had given us but, ever since her card machine had stopped working, she’d acted coldly and rudely. We had no issues with our cards in any other shop/ restaurant for the rest of the day so I suspect it was indeed a problem with their machine. Either way, the waitress’ attitude towards us was pretty terrible - not helpful, rude and just sat watching the card machine spin for 5 minutes when it clearly...
Read moreFood Excellent, service excellent - Sok Lin is amazing! Cocktails great BUT Every few months they jump the prices up !!! Example. Buffalo Chicken Cheese Fries just jumped from $7.50 to $8.75 !!! If they keep doing this they will loose faithful customers like us. I will not be ordering this dish anymore. They also keep doing these big rises in price with their drinks. There is a lot of competition in Phnom Penh. Don’t drive your good customers away. 😢😡
That’s was an Interesting response to my review above. We’re not seeing chicken breasts and fries increase in the shops, marts or Makro – sorry you are seeing rises from your suppliers. It is a little disingenuous to those impacted terribly by recent border issues, if you are implying that the rises are due to these. I am commenting on periodic rises over a longer period.
I have provided honest feedback which I had intended as constructive. I gave 5 stars to staff, food and atmosphere – my comments were aimed and management decisions to periodically apply “high” percentage jumps in prices on items. You say that it is not on drink “this time”, not sure the relevance of this to my feedback but we have also had to periodically change our favourite tipple because suddenly a favourite drink has increased by 20-30%.
Anyway. I’ve no intention to get into a review game of tit for tat. My feedback was to show that these periodic actions do disenfranchise your long-term and faithful clients. You have chosen to point out that the customer always has the right to vote with their feet and go elsewhere. Thank you, unfortunately you have lost 8-10 meals and multi drink orders per week now.
Wishing you all the very best for the future as your great staff deserve the credit, praise and...
Read moreThis place is super cool! Nice to see cozy places like this in Cambodia. The vibe at Garage Sale and the area in general is really cool feeling.
I guess you can say it’s “comfort food” from an American perspective. The food is a bit greasy but sometimes that’s what you want! I had a chicken burger and the chicken tendies so that’s deep fried anyway. They had so many flavors available for chicken wings, chicken tendies and potato wedges/chips. I definitely need to go back and try the burgers!
Other than that, the staff is so nice and polite. The location is a bit tricky to find but the owner is extremely helpful and we chatted here on google. He also told me exactly how to find the place. Here is part of his message copied and pasted:
We are open till midnight each day. Unfortunately its a bit tricky to find on google maps, as the alley isn’t on there. It is on Apple maps though. The best thing to do is head to Patio hotel, then walk down past there and take a left and keep walking. It’s an alley called Langka Lane, we’re right next to Sakana Lab and Embargo. Please give us a call or message on one of our socials next time if you can’t find us and we’ll give directions or come and meet you. My name is Nik and my phone number is on the business page. Don’t hesitate to reach out to me anytime. Thanks and have a great week!
All in all, recommended, and...
