I had an extremely disappointing experience. Two days prior to visiting the store, I called to ask whether they handled vintage watch restorations for a specific luxury brand. The representative, Fahad, offered very little information—only stating that the watch would need to be shipped to Switzerland for a quote, and if I chose not to proceed, I would just have to cover the shipping costs.
When I arrived at the store, I was not greeted or welcomed. Fahad met me at the door and refused to let me enter further, even though I had come to discuss the restoration of a vintage timepiece as well as several other luxury brand watches. Instead, the entire conversation was held at the doorway while Fahad held the door open, clearly waiting for me to leave.
Despite my questions, Fahad immediately quoted a $2000 restoration fee after glancing at the watch and wouldn’t elaborate or respond to my inquiries. His tone was dismissive, and his behavior came across as both disrespectful and biased. This watch holds deep sentimental value as a family heirloom, and I would have been willing to explore the quote further—but as soon as he mentioned the price, he turned his attention to another customer and stopped engaging with me altogether.
I attempted to browse the store afterward, hoping to look at other timepieces, but none of the three staff members present offered any assistance or acknowledged me. Based on this experience, I will be taking my...
Read moreMy son was recently diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. This has been a very stressful time for him. I recently purchased a medical alert bracelet for him in case of an emergency. The bracelet came and it was too big for my son’s smaller wrist. We had gone to a few other jewelry stores in the mall to be turned away. We decided to try one last store - Mariani watches. We were let into the store by Reuben and explained our situation to him. He immediately asked to see the bracelet and measured my son with graciousness and kindness. He asked how many links to remove and set about to help us. He treated us with respect even though we were dressed in loose sports clothes. When he finished with the bracelet he help put the bracelet on my son. He asked if it was tight enough. As it turned out we needed another link to be removed. He took the bracelet with generosity of spirit and removed the link. He asked if it ok and wanted to make sure my son was happy. When it was time to pay for his time and effort he told my son to be healthy and well and that if he needed it to be adjusted in the future to come back and he would help us again. He told my son that this effort on his part was on him. When I am ready to purchase a high end watch I will definitely be coming back to Reuben and Mariani jewellers and watches. Thank you for your generosity and kindness to...
Read moreThe best AD I have worked with since I started collecting watches a decade ago.
One of the main concerns that new watch buyers have especially when buying luxury watches is feeling a sense of intimidation when entering luxury boutiques. When you enter Mariani you instantly feel at home.
I was waiting on one of their sales team members to remove some links from my watch and I got talking with a sales manager and sales associate about vintage Hamiltons. The conversation felt so natural and authentic, even though I had literally just met these guys.
If you're looking to buy a luxury watch, I always recommend that you research heavily the watch you want to purchase ahead of time. With that being said their sales staff were very knowledgeable and answered some questions I had about the warranty process.
The final concern that new watch buyers have is being oversold. They are super transparent about their watches, what they're moving a lot of and what is going to suit your tastes.
The single most important thing to consider (beyond price) when buying a luxury watch, is what AD to buy it from. Ultimately you want to buy it from a reputable and trusted company, but you also want to buy it from an AD who you can form a good relationship with over time. Mariani for me was the AD that did just that.
If you're in the Burlington/Halton area, these...
