Store is nice. Produce and meat is good.

The problem I have is checking out. I go to a cashier because I don't work for Sobeys. If I have one or two items I will check out myself because that's for my convenience . Today, even though I went to a cashier this person wouldn't bag the items. I stood there waiting and finally started bagging because it got awkward. If Sobeys can inform their employees of their duties that would be great.

Another thing is the bags. They cost .18 for a paper bag without handles and .35 for a material reusable bag. I understand supermarkets want us to believe they are not providing plastic bags for the environment. However, if they were so concerned about the environment why do they provide free plastic bags for produce? Why is bread sold in plastic bags? Milk? Bakery items packaged in clam shell plastic containers. Frozen food items are in a plastic bag/wrapper then boxed. You could go through the store and find many many items packaged with plastic in some way. In my eyes, the only reason supermarkets don't sell plastic bags is because they know not many people will buy paper bags that don't have handles. They will buy the more expensive material bag with handles that has the store's name written on it. At least Loblaws gives you the option to purchase a plastic bag. These plastic bags I'm sure are used by many people in cities to put recyclable items in and then put them in the recycling bins. Seeing corporations like Sobeys and Walmart make you buy their material bags if you forget to bring yours remind me not to shop there. Loblaws is a far superior store for quality and selection. Joe Fresh has great clothing and Shoppers is quite possibly is the best pharmacy. I'm sure all these corporations are the same including Loblaws. At least they are not trying to get every little cent out of me to buy their products. Like the reusable bags. The small...

TERRIBLE CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE. The security guards and the employee, MARYAM, make you feel uncomfortable and treat you like a thief. I have been shopping at this store for years but ever since the pandemic the security and MARYAM stare at you and follow you in the store as if you are going to steal something. At first I thought it was mind over matter about being followed, but I constantly go to this store as I live nearby and a pattern developed that is not mere coincidence. Recently I visited the store with my wife and baby and as soon as we entered the store we were literally followed to the cheese/dairy section by the security guard and he stood there staring at me. When I stared back at him he nodded his head and walked away. A few days later I entered the store and walked to the beer section and immediately the security guard followed me and stood there staring as I grabbed a six pack. Once again I stared back and he walked away. These are two times I caught them following and confirms my suspicion that I have been followed many times before. MARYAM stands very close to you and stares as you self check out and makes you feel uncomfortable. The store is really convenient for me to access but I prefer to go to LOBLAWS or FARM BOY nearby where you are treated...

So my mom doesn’t have the best English and she calls me and tells me “come to the store I have a problem” so I come sprinting down to her and she tells me like I paid them 70 dollars and the total was 58 she says that she gave my mom 12 dollars mind you my mom doesn’t have a 10 dollar bill 10 dollars in coins and the manager comes running over to the cash thing they count the money over again they say that their actual 2 dollars short my mom doesn’t know what to do and I say do you want to check her bag like check the cameras and they say”the camera won’t pick that up” I think in my brain how won’t the camera pick up the colour of a bright purple bill and why won’t they have cameras at the cashier isn’t that a safety concern? So over all the experience is trash and my mom is pissed and they kinda ruined her day my brother is trying to do something but my mom is still mad and what if that would happen to someone who is struggling with money and also I thought the customer is always right isn’t that how it works I lowkey think she sneaked it but good for her I guess also the cashier started stressing out when I mentioned...

Ordered a 1/4 slab strawberry shortcake and asked them to sub the fresh cream for vanilla icing. I also made it very clear that my daughter doesn’t like custard and made sure to inform the employee to put a layer of icing instead of the custard. I received a hollow cake with thick strawberries. I usually order from the Todmorden location however, I wanted a picture of Minnie mouse on this cake and this location was the only one that had a working edible image machine. When I ordered this exact cake before from Todmorden, the strawberries are sliced thin in the middle, also I pay about $40 and that includes strawberries on the top as well. I was charged over $50 for this. I don’t really understand how you think this is an appropriate way to make a cake… Even if the instructions said ‘no custard’, wouldn’t you think to put something in the middle? I’m glad I received a refund but my daughter’s birthday was a little spoiled by this weird, dry cake. Will not be returning.

My shopping experience here has always been great, it’s always in and out for me with little to no lineups. Produce here is 80% fresh most of the time. The cashiers here tend to scan things extremely fast and sometimes I feel pressured to pack my things quickly. It would be nice for them to offer help but I guess nowadays because of COVID, they don’t want to do that! Sobeys is a bit pricey for the average young professional living in downtown, usually a week’s worth of groceries for two could costs around $100-150 and my husband and I don’t even have big portions for lunch/dinner. Aside from the pricey groceries, I really appreciate the little corner with flowers and succulents at this store, they have a nice variety now at an affordable price. I alway get my flowers here.

I’m concerned about the staff's handling of expired products at Sobeys. Earlier today, around 8 AM, I visited the store intending to buy fresh orange juice and shrimp. However, I noticed that both items had expired 1-2 days prior, according to the labels. I brought this to the attention of a staff member, expecting the products to be removed to prevent anyone from purchasing them and potentially becoming ill. To my surprise, when I returned to the store six hours later, those same expired items were still on the shelves. This raises concerns about food safety practices and how seriously the staff is taking these issues.
