The Jade Market has lost some its lustre from years past but remains a fun place for tourists to visit in Ya Ma Tei district just a couple minutes walk from the Tin Hau Temple. Stalls are open from around 10am to 5 or 6pm daily.

Here you will find a couple hundred stalls selling all manner of jade and jade related items - beads, jewellery and trinkets. Prices range from very cheap to the ridiculous so best to know jade and how to judge the quality of the product before considering more expensive purchases.

There is a lot of junk and fake stones mixed with authentic jade here. As such, have fun browsing and buying cheap items but unless you are an expert, you'd better stick with high street licensed dealers for expensive jade purchases.

After or before your visit to the Jade Market, its worth also seeing the nearby Tin Hau Temple. If you visiting near evening, have dinner at one of the many cheap eat places around Ya Ma Tai and Jordan before cruising through the nearby Temple Street Night Market, another fun place for tourists to...

I was going to give 1 star but Sandra from 152 made me change my decision. I am a small biz owner who makes accessories with genuine stones, mainly natural jade. As soon as I walk in, the very first store literally got physical with me, grabbed me, tried to bring me elsewhere, scam me showing dyed jade and said it’s natural jade. Asked $600-800 for jade bangles (if you watch videos and reviews, the average price for jade bangles are $350-450). I still found one that I really liked and paid overpriced item and when I was finished they still tried to bring me somewhere else and held my arms. Please don’t touch other people’s bodies. But Sandra from 152 was AMAZING, I didn’t tell her that I handle jade jewelry and she was very honest & educational and explained whats better grade and quality and difference between aventurine and natural jade. if you’re trying to buy any jade pieces don’t wast your time and just go STRAIGHT to...

I love this place and try to visit whenever I am in the area. If you need charming or exotic presents for yourself or others this is a great place to come. From traditional Chinese hairpins, and fans and toys and charms, to modern carved netsuke, and carved stone/jade plaques/plates and amber and mother of pearl jewellery to untold numbers of ropes of pearls and beads, this is a wonderful series of small stalls offering up a mere tidbits of a taste of goods that used to be common fare in this country. This is where I buy charming unique gifts that are always appreciated by the receiver. You need to bargain and it is always better to buy more than one thing at a stall so you can bargain more effectively. Just a note for those unfamiliar with the area maybe get a taxi to take you there, it is just off Nathan Road but it actually looks a bit like a blue tarpaulined...

You can find anything made of jade. If you look well, there are good items. But they start harassing you the moment you walk in. I don’t like to be touched. They keep talking and not leaving you alone. If I was left alone, I would’ve gotten some more stuff, but you wanna leave straightaway because of the attitude. I got couple of earrings. They started with $60-70. I paid $50. It’s still too much for what it’s for any you can probably haggle more, but I was hungry and wanted leave asap lol Most of them ask for ridiculous prices. One of them wanted £7000 for a stone: no certificate, a lot of scratches. They’re definitely taking the piss. You can definitely get better quality and style in shopping centres for the same value. It was a different experience, but not worth the effort. I felt completely exhausted from trying to escape from people when I left.

Vendors are quite pushy, some will say they arent but they are. Major turn off form the way they approach you and the price they give is never an honest one, only until you walk away they start throwing you much lower prices. Why not be honest in the first place? If they cant be honest with prices what makes you think they are honest sellers? The jades are probably fake. Was looking at a tiger eye bracelet. 1 vendor said 250khd then when walking away asking me how much i would pay, then lowered to 150 then to 50! Like wow! They are really trying to beat tourist in the head from the start! They ruin their own reputation from being pushy and dishonest…. If you want real jade go to a real jade seller like the ones in the jewelry store. If you want souvenirs sure come here but make sure you dont buy the price they offer you initially!
