One of the most important Romanesque monuments in Bohemia, the Basilica of St. George (the second oldest church in Prague) was founded around 920 by Prince Vratislav I. In 925, the remains of the grandmother of St. Wenceslas, murdered Princess Ludmila, the first Czech martyr, were deposited here. After the establishment of the neighboring St. George Monastery in 973, the temple was expanded and rebuilt into a three-nave basilica in the Early Romanesque style of Otton. Two white marlstone towers reaching a height of 41 m are the dominant feature of the whole object. The wider tower on the south side is called Adam, narrower northern Eve is oblique, it deviates by 40 cm. A tour of the Romanesque interior of the basilica with tombs of the Přemyslids is part of the main Prague Castle tour.

The Basilica of Saint George (Bazilika sv. Jiří) was founded in the 10th century, making it one of the oldest churches in Prague. It is named after Saint George, the patron saint of Bohemia. The church has a rich history, serving as both a place of worship and a burial site for several Bohemian kings and nobility.
The monastery attached to the basilica was originally founded by Prince Vratislaus I of Bohemia in 973 and was home to Benedictine monks. The monastery played an essential role in the religious and cultural life of medieval Prague, and over the centuries, it underwent several reconstructions and renovations.
Today, the Basilica of Saint George is a popular tourist destination, partly because of its beautiful and well-preserved Romanesque architecture, including its simple yet powerful design, and its role in the historical development of Prague and Bohemia. The monastery is still active, and the basilica is used for religious ceremonies and events. The site also houses a museum displaying works of religious art.

Read moreWe recommend, when you arrive in the interior heritage of the Castle to go directly and get the tickets, if you haven't got them online. You will have 4 points of interest: Old Castle, St Vitus Cathedral (which was our interest and you have to see it!!!), Golden Lane (which is really nice and worth the visit), St George's Basilica. There was program between 09:00- 17:00 and you need 2 - 3 hours, if you have time and want to see everything on a relaxed walk. Wonderful old basilica.
Extra Ticket: The Tower of St Vitus Cathedral - we recommend only for the ones who can climb for 10- 15 minutes on a narrow, spiral staircase. It's really challenging! I chose not to climb after reading the reviews on Trip Advisor. My husband went to the tower, he is really passionate about towers and climbing, and when he got back he told me that, honestly, for me it would have been hard because I am afraid of heights and narrow spaces and I get dizzy on those spiral staircases in...
