Description

The Qasr el Nil Bridge, is a historic swing bridge structure dating from 1931 which replaced the first bridge to span the Nile River in central Cairo, Egypt. It connects Tahrir Square in Downtown Cairo on the east bank of the river, to the southern end of Gezira/Zamalek Island.

Visited 7 October 2022 Another free site to see in Cairo. Walked to the most famous bridge over the River Nile in Cairo from Tahrir Square as it only a five minute walk. Some great views of the city and the Nile can be seen from either end of the bridge as well as in the middle where you can really see how fast the current of the Nile is. The most famous part of the bridge are the four large bronze lion sculptures which guard each end of the bridge. It is very popular with locals and tourists alike. This bridge, sometimes referred to as Kasr El Nil bridge was opened in 1933 by King Fouad and was originally called the Khedive Ismail Bridge in honour of his father. This was changed after the revolution that brought Nasser to power. Interestingly the company that built this bridge was also constructing the Sydney Harbour Bridge at the same time.

كوبرى قصر النيل .شارع قصر النيل . وسط البلد . القاهرة الموقع : يقع بمنطقة وسط البلد - منطقة قصر النيل المنشئ : الخديوى اسماعيل تاريخ الانشاء : 1869 تاريخ الكوبرى : الفضل فى بناء كوبرى قصر النيل إلى الخديوي إسماعيل، وقد بدأت قصة إنشاء كوبري قصر النيل مع تفكير الخديوي إسماعيل في إنشاء جسر يربط بين ميدان التحرير، والذى كان معروفاً وقتها باسم "ميدان الإسماعيلية"، والضفة الغربية من النيل، وقد بدأ العمل بشكل جدى في إنشاء الكوبرى عام 1869م حينما أصدر الخديوي إسماعيل، الأمر العالي لتنفيذ البناء، وتم إسناد المشروع لشركة الفرنسية، وبلغت تكلفة المشروع حوالى 2.750 ألف فرنك، أو ما يعادل 108 ألف جنيه مصرى فى هذا الوقت، واستغرق البناء حوالى 3 سنوات وبلغ طول الكوبرى 406 أمتار وعرضه 10 أمتار ونصف المتر شاملة الأرصفة الجانبية التى بلغ عرضها مترين ونصف المتر. وبعد الانتهاء من بناء الكوبري تم تشكيل لجنة من محمود باشا الفلكي رئيس ديوان الأشغال وبهجت باشا مفتش عموم قناطر وترع الوجه البحري وعلي باشا ابراهيم مهندس شوارع مصر لاختبار متانة جسم الكوبري وتم ذلك من خلال السماح بمرور طوبجية مدفعيه راكبه مكونه من 6 مدافع مع كامل ذخيرتها. تم المرور في البداية بالخطوة المعتادة ثم بالخطوة السريعة ثم مرور الطوبجية علي قسمين وبالفعل تم التأكد من صلابة جسم الكوبري وصلاحيته للاستخدام. لم يكن العبور علي الكوبري عند إنشائه مجانيا، ففور إتمام البناء، اصدر الخديوي مرسوماً يقضي بوضع حواجز علي مدخلي الكوبري لدفع رسوم عبور نشرت تفاصيلها في جريدة الوقائع المصرية بتاريخ 27 فبراير 1872 بعد مرور 17 يوما من افتتاح الكوبري. وكان الهدف من فرض تلك الرسوم هو أن تستخدم لتغطية تكاليف الصيانة وبلغت الرسوم قرشان للجمل المحمل وقرش واحد للجمل الفارغ والخيول والبغال المحملة قرش و15 باره وكذلك الأبقار والجاموس (كانت قيمة الباره تقدر بربع المليم) وكلف الخديوي اسماعيل شريف باشا ناظر الداخلية في أبريل 1871 بالاتصال بالخواجه جاكمار لعمل 4 تماثيل واقترح جاكمار بدوره أن تكون تلك التماثيل متوسطة الحجم وكلف لجنة من المثال أوجين جليوم والمصور جان ليون لتتولي مهمة الإشراف علي صناعة التماثيل. وخصص مبلغ 198 ألف فرنك للإنفاق علي المشروع. تم تصنيع التماثيل من البرونز في فرنسا ونقلت إلي الإسكندرية ومنها إلي موضعها الحالي علي مدخلي كوبري قصر النيل. وبعدها التصق إسم "أبو السباع" بالخديوي اسماعيل كنية لكل من يحمل هذا الاسم. الوصف المعماري : الكوبري مكونًا من 8 أجزاء، منها جزء متحرك وكان يتم فتحه يدويًا من خلال تروس، علاوة على جزئين نهائيين بطول 46 مترًا و5 أجزاء متوسطة بلغ طول كل منها 50 مترًا، وتم تأسيس دعائم الكوبري من الدبش المحاط بطبقة من الحجر الجيرى الصلب، كما تم تنفيذ الأساسات بطريقة الهواء المضغوط، وصممت فتحات الكوبرى كي يمكنها حمل 40 طنًا والسماح بعبور عربات متتابعة وزن كل منها 6 أطنان أو تحمل أوزان ضخمة موزعة على جسم الكوبرى. وبلغ ارتفاع جسم الكوبري عن سطح النيل حوالي 10 امتار حساباً للفيضان.
