Upon arriving at the ice bar, we were 20 minutes early and greeted by a staff member who seemed annoyed by our early arrival. We explained that we were early due to the cold and wet conditions outside and planned to buy drinks in the indoor bar while we waited. Begrudgingly, he allowed us inside. Despite the initial attitude, we decided to enjoy our free drink and purchased another while waiting to be called into the main ice bar, which was turning out to be a pleasant visit overall.
When it was time to enter, the same staff member gave instructions, first in German and then briefly in English. He explained the coat and glove process, mentioning that those who didn’t need gloves or hats could proceed directly to the next room. Following his instructions, the couple in front of us went ahead, and we followed, believing we were doing as he had explained. Unfortunately, we later realized his explanation wasn’t very clear.
Inside the ice bar, we ordered drinks and took in the icy atmosphere, getting some photos and enjoying the experience. Sadly one of my friend’s glasses had a hole in it only a minute or two after receiving the drinks, forcing him to quickly down his drink before setting the leaking glass aside. A few minutes later, my own drink started to leak, so I placed it aside as well which was a little frustrating.
As we were taking photos, a staff photographer offered to take a group picture. The two girls in our group set their drinks on the bar for the photo, but as soon as the picture was taken, the photographer grabbed their glasses and tossed them behind the bar without asking. Since there was little drink left in them, we initially brushed it off and didn't see any fuss. However, when we attempted to order new drinks, the situation soured.
The same staff member with the earlier attitude blasted us, claiming we should have kept hold of our glasses, even the ones that were leaking. When we pointed out that the photographer had thrown away the other glasses, he dismissively said it wasn’t his problem. His tone grew increasingly hostile as he accused us of ignoring his earlier instructions about entering the room. We explained that we had simply followed the couple in front of us and that his instructions had been unclear. Instead of resolving the issue, he refused to serve us further so we had no other option but to leave.
This rude interaction tainted what had otherwise been an enjoyable experience. While the other staff members were friendly, this individual’s attitude and lack of professionalism left a bad impression. The ice bar itself is small but offers a fun atmosphere. Unfortunately, the leaky drinks and poor service from this one staff member ruined our visit.
If you’re considering visiting, I’d advise caution your experience might depend heavily on which staff members you encounter. Sadly, this experience means I won’t return to the ice bar and cannot recommend it to others based...
Read moreWe clearly picked the wrong time to go to the Ice Bar on a Friday night in early December. It was a complete disaster and total waste of money. We arrived just before our time slot to a longish queue at the door. It was clear that they were taking in people who had not made reservations and it was even more clear that they were under staffed and over capacity. There was one bar man and around 50-60 people trying to get there first drink. It was chaos. We were booked for 18:20 and were told that we would go in 'to meet the Captain' at 19:00. We got our cocktails, after a lot of hustling at 18:57! The Captain came out, rang the bell and told us that we couldn't take our drinks through, and to leave them undrunk on the bar!! Not a chance, we drank them really quickly (not at all enjoyable) and joined the back of the really long queue.
We then proceeded into a tiny screening room. There were so many people rammed in, that you couldn't see the screen, or the subtitles and it was a total waste of time.
We then went through to the ice room that was supposed -11 degrees. Hardly! You couldn't see your breath, the sculptures and bar were made of plastic and it was so warm that we actually took our hats and gloves off. The worst part was that it was so warm, the ice glasses kept melting before you were even half way through a drink. They literally formed holes in the bottoms and sides and sprung leaks all over your clothes and floor. It was happening to most people in the room, there was more drink on the floor and on people than was actually drunk. Also, the two free drinks were a bit of a con, although obvious if you study the menu beforehand. The spirits come neat and not with a mixer, so if you want a mixer in your vodka (that probably won't stay in the glass anyway!) you instantly use your two free drinks vouchers as they are classed as separate drinks.
This whole experience is a bit of a sham. If you have been lucky enough to visit ice bars anywhere else, then you will be bitterly disappointed. It was colder outside than in the bar. The staff were grumpy (understandably as people voiced frustrations) and the whole experience was very um, unforgettable - all for the...
