BEWARE if you have ferry connections!

Lots of buses to the main places of interest but it’s operated very badly (just see the chaos as buses arrive and depart) and it’s expensive for many of the routes.

Why are they still operating with timetables taped to boards? Why is the website not updated with clear information? Where is the clear information on approximate journey times and costs? If planning your trip in advance why do you have to visit online blogs and forums to find bus information because they cannot provide it on their website?

For those catching a ferry they charge €2.50 per person (!) from the new port (where almost all ferries arrive/depart) and yet a taxi can be under €10, so well worth it for a couple of people.

Our experience: There is no information on journey times. We asked the journey time to the new port (for our ferry) and were told it’s 10mins away. No one tells you the bus goes via the airport so your journey will be around 25mins, longer if traffic is bad.

Due to a limited timetable we were catching a bus which should have got us to the port with 20mins before departure. As the bus departed over 10mins late (!) and then went to the airport (which is not clear from the timetable information) we arrived as our ferry departed. Goodbye ferry tickets! In hindsight it would have been cheaper and more pleasurable to...

The ticket booth wasn’t open first thing in the morning in time for the 9AM bus. Not sure when it does open, but you can purchase your tickets the day before or you can buy them on the bus (cash only).

The bus to the New Port makes a stop at the airport, so the total journey time is about 30 minutes. It’s possible it might take longer later in the day/afternoon.

We weren’t impressed by how KTEL runs its combined ferry port/airport service, which we found illogical and backwards because from the airport, we were driven back to Fabrika to drop the airport passengers off before finally heading to the New Port. We ferry port passengers essentially came along for the ride to the airport, causing the bus to be over its capacity, as there were people who had to stand.

There is also zero etiquette when boarding the bus. When in...

If you're here during peak season it's important to check the online bus schedule. You can find it at the little shack at the corner of the intersection. They have a QR code to scan that will take you to the full updated schedule.

Lastly, there's confusion about if there's a bus to Super Paradise. There is a shuttle, but no bus. During peak season or off season you'll need to check online because I get the sense that it isn't all year round.

Don't forget to check when the last bus runs too because you don't want to hire an expensive taxi

3 stars because the process is confusing and requires some work to get from point...

How dumb is it to put backpacks under the bus with the luggages? Took the bus from Fabrika to Airport and was told my backpack - mind you, a small backpack that could fit under my seat or on my lap, needs to be under the bus. I’m going to the airport, sir. My passport and important documents are there. Driver insisted that backpacks need to be under despite other people having their tote bags that are filled to the max with them. Ridiculous! Not once other than this driver insisted that backpacks should be under the bus and I took other buses in Mykonos.
