One of the best things about Mercato Centrale is its sheer diversity—whether you’re a fan of traditional Italian flavors, looking for something international, or just craving a quick snack, there’s something for everyone. • Tuscan Classics: You can’t visit Florence without trying Bistecca alla Fiorentina, and Mercato Centrale has vendors serving perfectly grilled steaks. There’s also fresh pasta with truffle, ribollita (Tuscan bread soup), and lampredotto (Florentine tripe sandwich) for those wanting a true local experience. • Pizza & Street Food: Whether you want a classic Margherita or a more gourmet-style pizza, the pizzerias here deliver quality with crispy crusts and fresh ingredients. You can also grab arancini (Sicilian rice balls) or schiacciata (stuffed focaccia sandwiches) on the go. • Seafood & International Flavors: From fresh oysters and fried calamari to a well-prepared sushi selection, seafood lovers won’t be disappointed. You can even find unexpected international options like Asian noodles and dumplings, which add a unique twist to the market’s offerings. • Cheese, Cured Meats & Wine: There are plenty of stalls selling Parmigiano Reggiano, pecorino, and fresh mozzarella, as well as prosciutto, finocchiona, and salami—perfect for putting together a picnic. Pair it all with a glass of Chianti or Brunello di Montalcino from one of the wine bars. • Desserts & Coffee: To finish your meal, you can choose from freshly made cannoli, artisanal gelato, tiramisu, or pastries. And of course, no visit is complete without a perfectly brewed Italian espresso or cappuccino.

With its mix of traditional, modern, and international cuisines, Mercato Centrale is the perfect place to sample a little bit of everything in one lively, welcoming space. Whether you’re looking for a sit-down meal, a quick bite, or ingredients to take home, the choices...

Visiting Mercato Centrale in Florence is an experience that perfectly blends local culture with modern culinary delights. Located in the vibrant San Lorenzo district, this bustling market is a must-visit for both locals and travelers looking to taste authentic Italian flavors.

The market's ground floor is a traditional market space, where you can find fresh produce, meat, cheese, and other local ingredients. It's the perfect place to shop like a local or simply soak in the vibrant atmosphere. Upstairs, the second floor is where the real culinary magic happens. The food court offers a wide range of dishes, from classic Italian pasta and pizza to international cuisine, all prepared with fresh, high-quality ingredients.

One dish that truly stood out during my visit was the Italian black truffle pasta. The rich, earthy flavor of the truffle, combined with perfectly cooked pasta, created a dish that was truly unforgettable. It’s a must-try for anyone visiting the market.

Whether you’re grabbing a quick bite or indulging in a full meal, Mercato Centrale offers something for everyone. Don’t miss the seafood corner for fresh oysters or the pasta stalls where you can watch chefs craft dishes right before your eyes.

Tips:

Try the seafood platters upstairs – they are fresh and beautifully presented.

Don’t miss the Italian black truffle pasta – the aroma and taste are simply...

If you like your leather with a side of performance art, this is your Colosseum. Outside the Mercato Centrale, you’ll find endless rows of leather as far as the eye can see—bags, jackets, wallets—if it can be skinned, dyed, and stitched, it’s here.

But here’s the secret: there’s Italian leather, and then there’s “Italian leather” sold to you by a very persuasive man from somewhere decidedly not Tuscany. It’s all good stuff, but brace yourself for the haggle tango. The first price is pure fantasy—like €485 for a backpack that you’ll eventually snag for €120 after performing a dramatic “Oh no, I must leave!” routine.

Inside the market proper, you’ll be glad you worked up an appetite wrestling with prices. The first floor is a glorious parade of fresh meats, fish, cheeses, vegetables, spices, and more olive oil than your checked luggage can handle. Upstairs, it’s a hungry traveler’s dream: steak so thick you’ll question your dentist, burgers, Greek food, tiramisu that whispers sweet nothings to your waistband, and chocolate croissants that are definitely worth the extra calories.

One final tip—keep that receipt handy. The bathrooms are on lockdown until you scan it like you’re trying to access a top-secret VIP lounge. Because in Italy, you might haggle down a backpack, but you’re still paying to pee.

5/5, would argue over leather and eat...
