From the trailhead in Vecchia Matera in front of MyWay bakery, it took me 40 minutes to reach the peak, and 30 minutes back. I’m 44 and not in amazing shape. I’m mentioning this because most of the reviews online say to expect 2-4 hours. If you have weak ankles or aren’t sure of your step, this is not a great trail as much of it is rocky or covered in shattered shale that slips under your feet. Also, please don’t go in sandals or barefoot - the way down to the Tibetan bridge there is no unfortunately a lot of broken glass. All that said there were very young children and much older folks who made it there and back - don’t be put off by the unreasonably long time estimates on most websites, but do be aware that this is a challenging hike.

It’s also stunningly beautiful...

One of the most magical moments of the sunset at Belvedere Murgia Timone is when the last rays of sunlight illuminate the Sassi, bathing them in a golden hue. It's a moment of tranquility and beauty that captures the timeless allure of Matera.

As the sun disappears below the horizon, the sky explodes with color, painting the clouds with shades of pink, purple, and red. The fading light reflects off the limestone cliffs, casting a warm glow over...
