After making a reservation on the website and receiving the confirmation email we arrived to the museum at the time specified. The phone number on the door was sent to voicemail and the door remained closed. We adhered to the museums request for the time slot. They called back 7 minutes after the specified time that they’re sorry but they’re 10 more minutes late. Edit: 10 minutes passed and nothing happened. The visit should have lasted 20 minutes altogether we have been waiting for 20 already. Adding the courtesy of arriving a bit early. Time badly spent I can’t imagine why this place is so highly rated. It’s a waiting simulator in front of a closed door. Edit 2: they called back 30 minutes after my initial reservation asking whether we left. And admitted that it’s...

When we arrived we weren't sure they were ready for us. It needs booking in advance. The father of the family gave us superb audiovisual guides in English.. He then accompanies you around the museum and at first we thought this was odd but then realised that at each stop he added either an explanation or made it interactive by showing us how water flowed through and allowing us to turn the millstones as though we were mules. He was absolutely charming and kind.

It really gave an appreciation for the art of making the olive oil and this historical building dating back nearly 300 years.

Not to be missed. Genuinely an experience you won't forget.

The olive oil was tasty at the end so we bought some...

We are so glad we decided to visit here on our trip to Matera! We emailed the day before we visited and were able to get a time slot the next day with just the 2 of us on a tour. We were given great audio guides in English but the owner spoke Italian and French too and provided us with additional explanations at each point. It was so interesting and such a niche thing to learn about - who really knows how olive oil used to be made?? At the end you got to taste some olive oil and it was delicious. Wish we could’ve brought some home on...

What a fantastic, informative museum! My partner and I had a private tour with Severino (I hope I spelled his name correctly), and he led us through the historic cave with its many aspects of an old olive oil press and production facility. It was accompanied by audio linked to a tablet with narration in English for us. At the end, we tasted — and bought — some olive oil. We highly recommend this tour.
