Monterosso is the largest of the five coastal villages collectively known as the Cinque Terre. The village is located on hills cultivated with vines and olives. The vegetation surrounds the built-up area like an embrace; its amazing beaches, its beautiful reefs and the sea’s crystal clear waters make this small village one of the most hospitable of the Ligurian Riviera.

The village is divided in two parts marked by the medieval tower of Aurora. The new part of town, Fegina, is full of life, it is the reflection of an area that tourism has made rich, as the great quantity and excellent quality of hotels and restaurants give evidence.

Fegina is dominated by the famous concrete statue of the Giant, built beside the terrace of a local villa. This statue was created at the beginning of the XX century by Levacher and Minerbi, an architect and a sculptor, and represents Neptune, the god of the sea. Now it has become the symbol of Monterosso.

The old town of Monterosso is dominated by the ruins of the castle and characterized by typical narrow medieval streets carruggi with multi-coloured terraced houses. The beach is the only extensive sand beach in the Cinque Terre and runs along most of the coast line and is well used by...

We stayed in a lovely apartment rented by Cinque Terre Riviera in Monterosso al Mare in January 2025. We give this apartment rental a low rating because they gave us a non-existing address to go to at first. We only found out after walking, with several suitcases, for about 20 min. on a cold winter day. We then had to call them for instructions and walk 20-25 min. back the same way! We got to the apartment, where the heater did not work. We were instead given a FABULOUS apartment with a view, so that was great, but the initial troubles were a lot. We tried to check out early as our home was located very close to the Los Angeles wildfires, but were only told "safe travels". No understanding. No response to simple request to mail forgotten glasses to a local address. Company NOT recommended. Go with another...

My review relates to our stay at Zia Rina Room in Vernazza, operated by this agency : I would not recommend this place. It was not as described and is definitely not worth the 470EUR paid for 2 nights

Unlike description : 1/ The place is much smaller than 40M2 2/ Room is not cleaned on a daily basis 3/ There is no heater (AC has low flow), and we were cold every night 4/ The hot water tank is for one and half person max, so again cold 5/ For breakfast : only 2 croissants .. for 2, for 2 nights, for 470 EUR ? 6/ They charged the luggage storage arguing it is handles by another company. Looking at the receipt it was easy to see that is the exact same company that managed our stay.

All in all, disappointing and...

We had a wonderful experience with Cinqueterre Riviera. We rented a room from them in Vernazza and it was just sublime. The view from the terrace is gorgeous. The rental was immaculately clean. Marco, who greeted us at the front desk, was incredibly warm, welcoming, and helpful. He gave us recommendations and showed us to our apartment. There are strict rules about sorting your garbage properly, using extra linens, and doing your dishes before leaving, but those rules are not prohibitive and they are in place with the environment in mind which I super appreciate. They are very eco-conscious in Cinqueterre. Our room had wifi. We came during May, right at the beginning of the tourist season, and it was busy but not overcrowded.

Use the public train from La Specia Centrale Stazione and buy the cinque terre card it costs 16 euro but you can use the train unlimited and also the toilets free of charge in Cinque Terre. The first village is just about 8 minutes by train Riomaggiore, the second from Riomaggiore just about 2 minutes by train Manarola, and the next 2 minutes Corniglia and the next is 3 minutes Vernazza and the last is 3 minutes Monterosso. Summer time the best beach in Monterosso there is a free and chargeable part of the seaside also. The most beutiful is Manarola and Vernazza.
