My husband and I stopped in for a light breakfast, and came away with an unforgettable memory & friend in Vernazza. Although we’ve been on vacation in Italy for over a month now, we can honestly say that the cappuccini and cornetti here are the BEST we’ve had in all of Italy. More importantly, the owner, Massimo, is among our most treasured memories for his humor, kind heart, joy for life, passion for Thoreau, and his dedication to his customers. We had breakfast here several times and each time we were delighted by Massimo’s charm, watching him interact with his customers, and the great food and service here at the Blue Marlin. Do yourself a favor and come here to experience great food, service, and company.

This was my favorite spot in all of Cinque Terre. We hiked the Blue Trail and arrived here around 7:30am. There was so much seating available inside and outside. We ordered espresso and croissants, both of which were delicious. At 8:30am they started serving “American breakfast” which we came back for (we needed the heartiness after our hike). It was also delicious. The lady working the bar was so so nice and helpful. Nice clean bathroom (although I’m sure it gets busier later in the day). We will definitely be back any time we’re back in Cinque Terre.

Make no mistakes, this is a bar that serves food, not a restaurant with a bar. Our mistake. We ordered a pesto pasta and a caprese salad. Both were okay, but the caprese salad came with dried basil… are you kidding me? This is Italy. The wine and sangria were good, though. When we were ready to pay with a credit card, they automatically selected USD$, which I didn’t appreciate, since the exchange rate is currently worse than when it’s calculated in euros. Most places ask the customer, so another demerit

This place has won the award of "is it possible to be any worse?" for worst restaurant my parents have been in their lives. First, my mom orders a pasta with anchovies and tomatoes, and upon arrival, she asked if she could have some parmesan cheese to put it on top. The waitress answered very rude saying "here we serve Italian style" and left, without even trying to properly explain that they wouldn't recommend adding cheese to this specific pasta. No one is supposed to know exactly how Italians serve every sigle dish, especially international tourists. Thank you very much for such hospitality. But this attitude was just the primo piato of this place. Once my mom went to the toilet, she noticed that there was another banner offering the same dish she ordered, but one euro more expensive than the banner they saw before entering the restaurant. In fact, another couple complained right in front of my parents to the same "polite" waitress that their dish was charged one euro more (it was the same dish) and she removed the extra charge. Knowing this would happen to them, my parents ordered the bill, that came wrong. My father told the waiter (another one, a guy this time) that the price was wrong. His answer? Call my father arrogant. Amazing. My mom got really upset and called him rude and then he simply flipped out and starting to SHOUT at my parents (they're 60 and 64 years old). A 30-something years old man, shouting at your parents because of ONE EURO??????? Seriously, what is wrong with you people???? And it was a TUESDAY of LOW SEASON. I wonder how nice they might be on a long working day during high season. They're lucky that my parents didn't call the police.

Stay away from this place. Seriously.

BTW Google forced me to edit my review because it was flagged as offensive (I wonder by whom?). So their waiter swearing at my parents is fine, but be writing a bad review it isn't.

I truly hope you run out...

I don’t get the bad reviews from some folks…maybe they don’t travel much. This place was awesome! Don’t sit on the restaurant side, walk through the little door to the back and sit near the bar. Maximo the owner is super cool and friendly. Food was fantastic. Prices were cheaper than other places in Liguria. We enjoyed it so much we stayed long past lunch just to enjoy the atmosphere and chat with folks. People playing the piano, folks singing…it was a blast. Is there occasionally a restroom line? Of course there is! Vernazza is FULL of rude tourists coming in to use the the toilet without patronizing the joint. That’d make me irritable too if I was the owner. Relax, slow down, appreciate that you’re in one of the most beautiful places on the planet and try to fit in! This was one of the highlights...

We ate here after walking the trail from Monterosso. Sat down inside and looked at menus and special which said ‘gnocchi and pomodoro’ which even as a non-Italian speaker can figure out means gnocchi and tomato sauce! They were quick with bringing over food but staff seemed bored and uninterested. Mine arrived with cheese on it (not specified on the menu) so I said I was unable to eat it as I cannot have Parmesan. (So many don’t realise this cheese is not vegetarian friendly) The staff were annoyed when I asked politely for no cheese as I cannot eat it. Then came over and said we should’ve said that before ordering (even though not on menu) Staff were just overall very rude and the food was about average. Wouldn’t really recommend except they...
