富士吉田ユースホステル Fujiyoshida Youth Hostel — Attraction in Fujiyoshida

I was visiting Mt. Fuji's area on a rainy season day, which wasn't my best travel decision ever, as the emblematic volcano was completely hidden by huge clouds. I decided to stay for the night and give it another chance, and asked the train station ladies if they knew a hotel in the area. This is how I learnt about this hostel.||||Hearing the word "youth hostel" I wasn't expecting much, but was very pleasantly surprised with the well-equipped (TV, remote-controlled air conditioning), individual room, with tatamis and futon, in a traditional Japanese house. The common bathroom is onsen/public bath-style and includes two showers and a heated ofuro (bath). There is tea and coffee with hot water to use in a common area. The landlady is very helpful and polite, and speaks good English, which helped as my Japanese level just allows me to get by.||||As a side note, the hostel is located just next to a fantastic sushi restaurant, where the owner prepares his dishes right in front of you, and if you can speak basic Japanese, will even be chatty in both Japanese and English.||||All in all, Fujiyoshida hostel saved my trip, and I thoroughly recommend it, even on a...

The lady servicing us was extremely friendly. She gave us a map and introduced us to different shops and restaurants around town, and gave us a rundown of the hostel. She also gave us pocky as a parting gift.

The room itself was extremely clean and comfortable to sleep in. The heater really does the job in winter! There's plenty of sinks to use, and the shower comfortable to use. There's a coin laundry and dryer at a really fair price - just make sure to plug them in!

The place is really easy to find - just follow the street signs, or use Google Maps. It's practically in the centre of the town, about equidistant from Gekkoji station and Shimoyoshida station. It is a slight downhill from the hostel to Shimoyoshida station though, so I recommend that station if you're leaving. There is a 7-Eleven with seats near Gekkoji station, though, if you're in a rush.

The only bad thing about this place is that the stairs are very, very steep. I would have almost preferred a ladder. You do get used to...

The host is very welcoming, kind and attentive. This place is warm and Japanese style designed including the futon beds. We loved the decor and felt at home at once. Our room has a beautiful view of Mt Fuji and a full wall of windows which gives beautiful natural light. It is spacious enough and equipped with comfortable linen, a small dining table with sitting cushions, towel dryer, hair dryer, hangers, air-condition and humidifier. Having said that, we didn't need the last two as we opened the windows on the insect screen and lots of fresh air was coming in enough to sleep comfortably keeping in mind we are travelling in May. Every other thing is given attention and detail. Although shared, the toilet room and shower room are always immaculately clean. They are both equipped with everything you will need.
