La Vista Kusatsu Hills — Attraction in Kusatsu

Pros:1. The room was incredibly spacious, with 4 beds even though we were only a party of 3. The mountain view from the room was fantastic!2. Overall cleanliness was good.3. Excellent location near Yubatake, where local shops and dining options are plentiful.4. The private onsen was amazing, with a convenient button to refill hot water into the tub.5. Special afternoon and evening times offered free food at the lounges, including ice cream, turnip soup, sausages, noodles, and special amenities like complimentary interdental brushes and facial masks.6. Hotel staff provided excellent and efficient service.7. Dinner was a delightful 7-course meal, with each evening featuring a different menu.8. Breakfast was quite good with a decent variety.9. The complimentary parking area was spacious with plenty of spots, located right next to the hotel entrance.Cons:1. There isn't much to criticise about the place. A dining room - Joy of joys - serving up Japanese convenience store breakfasts and evening set menu, strictly timed sitting, meals befitting a North Korean cruise liner. Or boarding school meal. ||And here’s the rub - pricing itself at 3x the 5-star Ritz Carlton Chicago for the same dates, where you’d still have $500 left for dining. ||The onsen? Well let’s say it’s no Aman.||It does have a great view over the town below to the volcano rim opposite. And the staff is impeccably polite and demure, just completely untrained or empowered to solve problems. (That’s a Japan thing, though.)||A total ripoff.
