I rented a kimono Okamoto Kyoto Station West Shop while exploring Arashiyama, Japan. I did the "Full pledge outfit plan" and "free hair choice" total 7,128yen so about $47. I return it on same day by 6pm.
There were so many kimono to choose from and I took a while to find one I like. I am very picky so didn't like most of them but maybe the better ones were already taken (got there around 12pm) or I should have gone with the more expensive plan. I picked everything myself but got help with innerwear. Afterwards I went upstairs where they help dress me up and do my hair. I opt for side braid and I thought the hair stylist did a beautiful job with my hair! I didn't unbraid it until I got home that day.
I do wish they designate the hair stylist to help one girl at a time though because the original lady who did my my hair went to work on another girl after she finished mine so I felt a bit lost on what to pick, there was just so many options! I didn't know what would look good, but I did look through their online gallery beforehand so I have a general idea what I like. I ended up picking a bunch of flowers and pearls and a different lady help put them on my hair. I was happy with how it look at the end.
The lady took a few pictures of me upstairs and after I pick my sandal, I went downstairs where another staff took more picture for their website gallery and on my phone, which I appreciate very much! I love how the photos turns out! They do a really good job with the photos. I really love that they post pictures everyday on their online website gallery to help customer see different styles and option, mine was posted on 12.01.2024.

Read moreIf you’re thinking about renting a kimono in Kyoto, I highly recommend Kimono Rental Okamoto. I went there recently and had a great experience. The place is super clean, spacious, and fully equipped with everything you’d possibly need for a proper kimono experience — from hair accessories, tabi socks, to tons of beautiful kimono and yukata options for both men and women.
The staff is very professional and friendly. They help you get dressed, style your hair, and make sure everything fits perfectly and comfortably. It didn’t feel rushed at all, even though they had quite a few customers that day. The whole process felt smooth and respectful, which really matters when dealing with traditional wear like this.
The only thing you might want to note is that the location is a bit tucked away. It’s not directly on the main street, so you might have to walk a bit into a side alley. But honestly, once you find it, it’s 100% worth it.
So if you’re looking for a quality kimono rental with great service and a wide range of styles, this place is a solid choice. I’d totally go again next time...
