I had an experience at this service center that left a pretty sour taste in my mouth. I came in about 30 mins before close to activate my pass and book reservations for my trip. It was pretty empty, only one other customer was there. I was placed with a young foreign lady (definitely European, maybe German, her name was something along the lines of Gichard or whatever) who rushed us and treated us very condescendingly the entire time. I felt stressed just watching her click through the screen options so quickly. I would understand if there was a big line behind us but there was nobody else in that office. She rushed us, made snide comments, I don’t understand why? I’ve never been treated like that in Japan before. Is that really the representation JR wants for their brand? At the end she quickly presented the tickets for us and I felt like I just had to say “ok” and leave quickly or I was inconveniencing her. I don’t know if JR actually reads the Google reviews, but please train your foreign staff to treat other foreigners the same way they would want to be treated in a new country. It was a totally...

Came here to pick up our 5days JR East rail passes that we booked online before arriving in Japan. It was annoying that the pickup points are only certain areas in Kanto or Tohoku, for instance, we couldn’t pick up at any other JR stations/airpots in Kansai where we started to travel. So we lost one day out of 5 days pass period, however, it was worth it since a return trip Tokyo - Aomori costs over 40,000¥ but the pass is 30,000¥
The clerks at the service center were kind and efficient
Only the complaint is the JR East website(English) which is not so user friendly. Very complicated to understand the system and the navigation through the site is horrible. It’s so hard to find a simple topic, like, find the pass pickup points. It’s not straight forward Wish...
Read moreI did five Shinkansen seat reservations here on a Tuesday morning at 10 am, and inclusive of queuing, everything took but 10 minutes. The staff spoke flawless English, was friendly and humourous, and typed at her keyboard with lightning speed. Other than the reservations counter, this centre is beautiful and has quite a lot of travel literature too.
Travel tip 1: If you’re landing at Haneda Airport and don’t mind paying a few hundred yen to ride the Monorail and Yamanote Line, it’s better to exchange your JR passes here. Anyway, unlike this center, the counter at Haneda cannot do reservations.
Travel tip 2: It always helps a lot if you research and print out your preferred rides and seats beforehand. Indicate the train number, time, and whether you want a window or aisle seat.
Travel tip 3: They have...
