This is an amazing hotel. Comfortable, reasonably priced, with a 10/10 location that can’t be beat. I was born and bred in Malacca, so I’m very familiar with all the historical sights in Malacca. This hotel is within walking distance to all of them!||Before deciding on this hotel, I’ve scoured dozens and dozens of hotels and guest houses in Malacca. I knew I wanted to stay near the Malacca river, because my priority was to do the river walk at dawn. I chose JonkeRED because it’s located at the end of the river, which meant that I could start and end my walk from Jonker St. Half way through the walk, I suggest stopping at Siang Chiang Cafe for a perfect local breakfast. The Yong Tao Fu and laksa are out of this world.||Right from the start, JonkeRED showed me that they could provide impeccable customer service. I’m traveling with two young teenager children who would prefer their own beds, so JonkeRED arranged for my family to have two connecting rooms, one with a queen size bed for my husband and I, and one with two twin beds for my kids. They communicated with me ahead of time, and even sent me pictures of the exact rooms that I would get. The rooms worked out perfectly because my kids had their own space but could come over anytime they want, and with the extra shower (which is beautiful, BTW) we could take extra showers throughout the day when we’re sweaty from all the walking. Having the hotel nearby also meant that we could come back anytime to rest and enjoy the AC, which is very comfortable and quiet. The hotel is also right across from a shop that sells a beautiful assortment of Kebayas, the traditional nyonya costume.||It pains me to say this as a Malaysian, but it’s rare to find hotels of such quality anywhere in Malaysia, and at such a reasonable price. The WiFi is fast and good, and the beds and beddings are all comfortable and of good quality. Front desk reception is friendly and kind, and they delivered a face towel to our room when I asked for it. We had a wonderful stay here and will be back again!||Oh and the wall with the fake plants - I thought it would be hokey, but it’s actually very pleasant to the eye, and is a very artistic and clever way to allows for light and also privacy into the room. I’ve taken a pic of it here. We definitely...

Read moreDon’t believe the hype. Whilst the rooms are spacious and affordable, they offer very little natural light. Pictures offered by hotel on booking sites are deceiving. Neither the lobby or the hallways are as bright as the photos and the reason they show all the rooms with the window blinds closed is because there’s a concrete wall behind those blinds with fake palms stuck to them to make it appear “tropical“.
The first room they gave me smelled old and dank. The second room they gave me was better, BUT the windows in the bathroom NEVER close, whereby always humid; I had to keep bathroom door closed with a towel blocking the opening in door to keep the “outside“ inside the bathroom and not in area with bed.
As mentioned in previous reviews, once you leave the room the power goes off and very high humidity seeps back into the room almost immediately, whereby all of your items become slightly damp; not good for electronics. When you return, it takes forever to cool the room off and the humidity stays.
Hotel boasts a no-smoking policy, however, there was a very heavy scent of cigarette smoke in the hallway on the third floor. When I complained to the front desk, I was told they would check it out whenever guests checked out. I have a very serious smoke allergy and was sick most of the night.
The Wi-Fi is not reliable. One of the two coffee cup/saucer/spoon sets was dirty from a previous guest, the window screens in the bathroom were disgustingly dirty, and the room smelled bad.
A small but important mention is #5 of the Hotel Rules and Management Policies where it states, “Upon check out guest have to show the deposit receipt together with room key card for deposit to be refunded.“ If you do not ask for a receipt, the front desk will not give you one.
I booked this hotel based off the good reviews for a great place to spend my birthday, however, I ended up booking another hotel after only staying one night because it’s dreary and not that comfortable. Unfortunately, I would not...
