I always give honest reviews so I have to tell the truth about this Mia Spa. The harsh truth. I rarely give 1 star reviews cuz it's so harsh. But when they earn it then that's what they get.
I have had many many massages all over the world. Many good, a fair amount just mediocre, a few exceptionally great, and a bunch that were unfortunately bad. Skills vary. You get what you pay for most times. Street vendors or beach tents are cheap and you have to expect it won't be outstanding. That can be fine for a quick rub down.
But, when you want a REAL deep tissue healing relieving massage you have to search for a real healer. A massage therapist with mastery level skills. You know the kind of person who just knows what your body needs and you don't have to say a word to. You can just drift into that zen state and let go. You leave feeling like a new person.
This is what we all seek in those times of need and will pay well to get right? Well.. that's what I was searching for in Playa and decided to try Mia spa.
That was a mistake.
In short..just avoid.
Plenty of other places in Playa are much better. Here is some of the reasons I say avoid Mia.
First, their masseuse "Lu " gave me a horrible deep tissue.. left me more stressed when left. Seriously. I felt she just fast scrubbed my back and put her anxiety into me for 90 minutes and for $80 USD. I tried to communicate with her 5 times to slow down so I could relax. Never happened. I should've stopped the massage 10 minutes in but I hoped it would get better. I left biting my tongue to not cause a scene, but the next day I still felt so irritated from her stressful massage I went back to talk to the manager.
"Alina" wanted to give me deep tissue after hearing about the regrettable first massage.
Now, to be 100% fair and honest Alina's first deep tissue massage was better than Lu. And if it wasn't negated by the fact she is unprofessional I would've gone back for future massages to give her a try as a consistent masseuse. But, shes young, and has a lack of business sense, or respect for other peoples time. She cancelled last minute with no regard for the inconvenience. With an attitude like it's no big deal to cancel. She thinks her time is more important than the clients or something. Maybe, wasn't properly trained in customer service? When she cancelled it didn't seem genuine and apologetic, like the times you know when life happens and you have to let things slide. But she just came off immature, inconsiderate with a bad attitude which shouldn't be rewarded with any more time or money.
Thus..2 strikes.. Mia is out! I tried to give them the chance to redeem but.. enough is enough. There's just too many other massage options to treat clients with such poor regard.
If you actually want good service and a great massage.. go elsewhere. It's not here at Mia. This is really inexcusable for a place charging USA rates calling themselves a spa. Whoever runs this place really needs to get it together! I hope the owners honestly consider what I said here, train they employees better and use this as a learning lesson for future clients. Every word of this review was true. I stand behind it....
Read moreI recently treated myself to a spa session at Mia Spa in Playa for the chocolate body wrap and basic facial. The spa itself is cozy and the staff lovely to work with. I attended with a friend, and we were able to be in the same room during our session. The music was turned quite loud, but I'm not sure if this was deliberate because two of us were in the same room or not.
Chocolate Body Wrap This consisted of a very brisk scrub that was on the verge of being painful (extreme pressure was applied) and burned a bit; not sure if it had a high salt content? It would have been very painful had I even a little bit of sunburn. I was wondering if the scrub itself was put on dry but upon feeling my skin it was in a nice creamy substance. It was not washed off before the chocolate substance was applied, and I wondered how the chocolate cream would be able to soak into my skin with the scrub barrier still present? I was wrapped up nicely; the attendant left the room during this time and later returned to help me up to shower off the product. I then expected the usual last step experienced in previous body wraps elsewhere with the application of a body lotion but this was not done. Perhaps she forgot to do this or just wanted to cut a corner? My wrap consisted of exfoliation, chocolate body wrap product and being wrapped up itself. That's it. This body wrap left me feeling a bit "unfinished," and I would not do it again unless they actually gave a complete body wrap experience (don't omit or skip steps). I don't think the price was worth it for this reason.
Basic Facial The products used on my face were very nice. Again the attendant left the room during the mask phase (this is usually when a hand massage and/or head massage is done during facials taken in my home country), but to be fair it was not listed in the steps on the website. There was a bit of pressure pointing done on my face. This facial lasted perhaps 30 minutes, no where near the advertised 45 minutes. It just doesn't include enough product/steps to be 45 minutes. Also perhaps add a toner to the regimen? I also don't think this was good value for the money paid and felt the time was shortened up quite a bit, although my face did feel nice afterward.
Afterward my friend and I enjoyed a cup of tea and chocolates, a nice way to end...
Read moreI had high hopes for our experience at this spa. My husband I came to Playa on our Honeymoon and decided to go for the "Spa Day" treatment which was to include a massage, a facial, a chocolate body wrap, an exfoliating scrub and a foot massage. My massage was pretty bad. The room was freezing and the girl doing the massage seemed inexperienced and kept massaging the same areas over and over even when I told her not to. She barely did my arms or hands, where I asked her to please focus. Instead she overworked my shoulders and back and made me very sore. After the massage, the same girl proceed to give us the chocolate body wrap, body scrub and facial. Her application was quick and rough and just felt overall rushed and unprofessional. She didn't explain what she was doing during the process or why and it wasn't very relaxing. These girls didn't seem like they specialized in any one thing, instead just trying to do everything without much experience. It was notable to both my husband and I that we were getting "B" rated service. The shower where we went to rinse off was very little water pressure and took 5 mins to get warm water. The advertisement states that we would be getting a separate foot massage and no such thing was given. My feet were barely touched during the massage. When checking out, the girls were having trouble with the credit card scanner which took way longer than it should have after we just wanted to leave. It was one of the worst massage /spa experiences I've had and I've had a ton of massages and spa experiences. I will not be returning to this place again....
