Did you know that Murder on the Orient Express was inspired—and reportedly even partly written—right here at the legendary Pera Palace Hotel in Istanbul? Agatha Christie stayed in Room 411, now famously known as the Agatha Christie Room, and it's said that the hotel’s opulent setting and rich history helped inspire her famous mystery. This hotel isn’t just any place to stay; it’s a journey back in time to the golden age of travel and sophistication. Opened in 1895, Pera Palace was built to welcome travelers of the Orient Express, and it features the very first electric elevator in Turkey—an elegant, wood-paneled lift that still operates today, transporting guests with a sense of old-world charm. Walking through the lobby and halls feels like stepping into a time capsule, surrounded by art deco details, chandeliers, and marble floors that evoke a feeling of grandeur. Whether you're a history lover, a fan of classic literature, or simply in search of a luxurious escape, Pera Palace promises an unforgettable stay, full of elegance, heritage, and a bit of literary magic.

This is truly the most extraordinary hotel I have ever encountered. The service is nothing short of exquisite, with every staff member radiating warmth and professionalism. Our three-night stay felt far too brief, and we found ourselves wishing for more time here. Breakfast each morning was a delightful experience, featuring a mouthwatering array of dishes that catered to every palate. The high tea was an absolute must, offering a perfect blend of savory and sweet treats that we savored in a beautifully elegant setting. We also indulged in the hammam and received soothing massages that left us feeling utterly rejuvenated. One of the highlights of our stay was enjoying a refreshing beer at the Orient Express bar – the ambiance there was simply enchanting. We resided in rooms 201 and 609, both of which provided us with a wonderful atmosphere and all the comforts we could desire. A heartfelt thank you to the entire team for making our stay so memorable!

Absolutely stunning hotel. I always wanted to stay here after watching the Netflix documentary. So much history here. The staff from the front of the door to the buffet, to the bakery was just amazing. Breakfast was very good and very clean with lots of options. The only thing i didn’t like is the in room dining. We ordered the penne pasta and it was delivered cold. I had to send it back and all they did is re-heat it. For such a fine place this was definitely not appropriate. Beds were very comfortable and clean. I loved the bedding so much that i bought two pillow cases to make my guest bedroom at home to look all fancy. Great experience over all. The tea time is not free, just fyi. I think it was like $25 a person. I guess If you stay here you don’t complain about pricing lol. Have fun exploring this place. Pretty sweet. Drinks and the atmosphere in the bar is fantastic.

I haven’t stayed in the hotel myself but when I have foreign friends who come to explore Istanbul, it’s our must stop to see the legendary hotel and have a glass of Prosecco in their lobby surrounded by these gorgeous interiors. And if you buy online tickets in advance and come in certain hours, you can as well visit the room of Turkish Republic founder Mustafa Kemal Atatürk; it’s impressive - untouched interiors and lots of personal belongings of a great leader and his manuscripts.

This is the famous Agatha Christie hotel where it’s said she stayed and wrote Murder on the Orient Express. When you enter the hotel it’s like stepping back in time. The rooms where Agatha Christie (room 411) and Ernest Hemingway stayed are immaculate and almost unchanged since the time they stayed there. Lovely place and definitely worth a visit even if it’s just for food in the Brasserie or restaurant which are set out like it’s the 1930’s
