I love these old cliff lifts! Both Whitby and Saltburn have them too. Lovely working slice of history. Beautiful to watch their trundling motion as they effortlessly slide up and down. I walked down the Zig Zag path to the beach but used the lift to ascend. Great fun! No cash, card payments only. Open 10am to 6pm daily with last lift at 5.50pm. Service pause at 1.30 - 2pm. Having purchased a ticket from the plentiful staff, I boarded my ‘funicular’ transport immediately.
Safety checks complete - I departed and arrived within 1 minute at the top. I can’t validate whether this is slower or faster than normal, but haven’t scored any more or less because of it.
