St George's Church, Bloomsbury. — Attraction in London

St George’s Bloomsbury is one of the twelve new churches designed and paid for under the 1711 Act of Parliament for building Fifty New Churches, and the sixth and final London church designed by the leading architect of the English Baroque, Nicholas Hawksmoor.

Restoration began in 2002 has been funded by the estate of Paul Mellon the American philanthropist, through the World Monuments Fund; the Heritage Lottery Fund, the Robert Wilson Challenge Fund and a host of smaller donors. It has made possible a new future for the church. The architect of the restoration was Colin Kerr with Inskip and Jenkins designing the North Gallery.

This is a small but nevertheless attractive church located fairly close to the British Museum. When I visited it was closed and so it wasn't possible...

That Dutch candelabra is a terrific centrepiece to this super neo classical mini gem. My learned companion told me that it was one of Wren’s six London churches.

We were there to see the wonderfully accomplished Cantus choir performing Rachmaninoff’s Night Vigil by candlelight. An accomplished and emotional slice of sacred choral music.

A really lovely event in a gorgeous wedding...

Visited New year's Eve 2023. Between the orthodox Liturgy and church of England Liturgy. A fine church, making great use of the sacred space and the light. Fine stain glass windows of the evangelists and their icon symbols ie eagle and bull. And It's Peter and Andrew. A short walk from The British Museum and Drury Lane so a nice stop between. Worth a...
