The room had not been cleaned prior to our arrival, so we had to ask the owner/manager to clean it before we agreed to stay. To find hairs in the bath, toothpaste marks in the sink, a used glass on the bed site table, lots of dust and a filthy floor was not a nice welcome. Whilst waiting for the room to be cleaned, we were offered a free drink in the bar downstairs. A nice gesture, but a shame that the lager was not chilled and was undrinkable.
On the face of things it looks like a nice room, but it has been finished poorly: the finials on the curtain pole were broken, the toilet role holder was broken, paint splatters on the floor, a broken mirror on the sliding wardrobe door, a large mirror above the bed repaired with duct tape, a broken light fitting and lots of marks on the wall. The door separating the bathroom and bedroom was very difficult to close when in the bathroom, as there was no handle (bit odd). There were also no cups for tea, only 1 teabag and no milk. The kettle was filthy, as were the washing machine and tumble dryer (hidden in a huge sliding wardrobe).
Even though the room had been cleaned, the floor was still filthy and our feet would get black from walking barefoot in the bedroom area.
Breakfast was not included, in fact there was no one around in the mornings at all.
I would not stay here again and would not recommend it to anyone either. Very disappointing for...
Read moreThis place is excellent and I fully recommend that you go here if you want to buy beer or wine or a drink or a glass of something and you want to get a little bit drunk but I would not recommend that you come here if you want to buy a wellington boot I thought this was a place where I should come to buy some boots to replace the books that I own but when I got here and I brought my old boots and said please can you repair my boots because they now let water in because they have a crack on the bottom and the crack let's water in the nice lady said that she does not know how to repair boots and I said well that is very strange because I thought that repairing boots was a relatively simple procedure and she said that she thought I should buy some new boots and I said what type of boots do you have and what can I buy and she said we do not send boots and I said well what do you sell and she said well we sell alcoholic drinks and I said well that is no good because I need some boots to keep my feet dry and she said well then you should wet your whistle and I said what I don't have a whistle and she said you should drink a drink and not worry about your wellingtons so I had a drink and then add another and then I had a funeral and by the time I had drunk all of the drinks that she gave to me I did not care...
Read moreSecond time staying here recently, my first stay was really positive, clean room with good facilities and the staff on were very friendly! Unfortunately my second stay was very different, I booked the same room with en-suite and was very upset to find out on arrival that I had been put in a room with no bathroom, just a very strange shower in the corner of the room with no curtain or privacy and was instructed to use a shared toilet down the corridor. The lovely gentleman who checked me in was very apologetic and went to speak to the manager, he then came up and informed me that she 'didn't like' me because I had changed my reservation date so had put me there. (This is an actual quote!)
I never write negative reviews, especially to independent businesses but the next day I was told I wasn't allowed an email address for the owner or anyone except the manager. A gentleman staying saw all of this unfold and actually offered me his room (en-suite, which he had paid significantly less for). I didn't accept this of course. I did ask if I would be refunded for the difference I paid but I was told it wasn't possible. Such a bizarre experience, and a shame that the manager's issue tainted what is actually a really cosy and charming...
