I recently had the pleasure of booking five tours with Greatland Adventures, and I can't say enough good things about my experience. From the moment I first connected with Steve and his team, I knew I was in good hands. Their passion for the Aura, the essence of Alaska, was contagious and truly made my trip unforgettable. Throughout my tours, I had the opportunity to work with Bill and Matt, who were not only incredibly knowledgeable but also patient and kind. They went above and beyond to ensure that I had an amazing time exploring the wonders of Alaska. Along the way, they shared fascinating tidbits about the state, deepening my appreciation for its beauty. One of the highlights of my journey was experiencing glaciers up close and personal. Whether it was hiking on foot, taking a breathtaking helicopter ride, or soaring above the glaciers in a plane, Greatland Adventures provided unique and awe-inspiring ways to witness these natural wonders. What impressed me most about Greatland Adventures was their genuine love for Alaska and their dedication to showcasing its wonders to the world. They are true ambassadors of this incredible state. I left Alaska feeling not only grateful for the experience but also excited to share this hidden gem with my clients. I wholeheartedly recommend Greatland Adventures to anyone seeking an unforgettable Alaska adventure. Their expertise, passion, and exceptional service make them the ideal choice for exploring the wonders of this beautiful state. Thank you, Steve, Bill, Matt, and the entire team, for making my trip an absolute delight....

My partner and I had planned to see the Northern Lights while in Fairbanks. Unfortunately, the weather did not hold up, and despite there being aurora activity, it was completely cloudy in and around Fairbanks. We actually purchased another tour with a high success rate and were sorely disappointed when we were clouded out after chasing the whole night. The next night, we drove south to a lake for viewing and were soon joined by Greatland Tours. The aurora made a colorful and kinetic appearance, and Jacob, one of the guides and photographers for Greatland, ushered us in front of his camera and snapped photos of us while the lights danced. He didn’t care that we hadn’t paid to be on his tour. He genuinely wanted us to have beautiful photos of our experience!

Kindness notwithstanding, the tour appeared well organized and seamless. There were two vans that held easily a dozen people but were capped at a respectable 8 per vehicle. Everyone had autonomy of watching the sky or staying warm with some drinks in the comfort of the van. The guides were super knowledgeable about all things aurora, Alaska, and photography, friendly and easy to converse with, and were totally willing to take as many pictures as each person wanted.

I proposed to my now-fiancé under the lights, and Jacob took shots afterwards and even during the proposal (sneaky, mad props)! He went out of his way to be generous with his time, taking, editing, and sending pictures to us to commemorate our special night. If I ever book another aurora chasing tour, it WILL be with...

After 3 days of a 5-day trip to Fairbanks, all with the intention of seeing the aurora, I was freaking out because the cloud cover wouldn't budge. Despite having a list of the most popular spots to see the lights, I was batting .000. So I did the thing I had told myself I wouldn't and booked a chaser tour. And it was completely worth it! I called Greatland Adventures at 4 p.m. on the day of and they had 1 spot. Mike picked me up five hours later and I'd spend the next 6 hours with him and a fun group of like-minded people who happened to pick a rough week to visit the area.

While driving around, Mike was not only knowledgeable about the aurora and able to explain in plainspeak with colorful metaphors but also full of other stories from his travels and a great conversation. He kept his van-ful of people engaged the whole time. We ended up trying three spots, using his, his partner's and his company's office team (which stayed up with us) to track weather patterns in addition to aurora intensity and attraction. The first spot didn't work for the lights but provided an amazing night sky view until the clouds returned. The second also didn't pan out. But the third, which happened to be at Greatland's property in Fairbanks that Mike also calls home when he's working, provided terrific views and even better pictures considering the circumstances.

I wasn't able to find the lights like this on my own. I told Mike he saved my trip. By 6 a.m., when I was dropped back off at my rental, most everyone was still buzzing...

We had a tour with the guide, Tim. He picked us up at 8am and drove us to Matanuska Glacier in a clean and comfortable van. On the two-hour drive, we could enjoy a beautiful scenic view surrounding us, and Tim shared wish us interesting stories and facts about the nature here with extensive knowledge—And he already prepared snacks and bottles of water inside the van, which we enjoyed as well. Once we arrived the glacier, Tim offered us full ice equipment—helmets, ice cleats—and a brief on safety instructions. (Though we speak English, he even printed out a paper of instructions in Korean just in case that we don't speak English, showing that he's friendly towards any guest from the world.) We walked on the glacier SURFACE for 1.5 hours with his explanations of the terrain, which was one of the most amazing experiences I had in Alaska. The loop was easy and safe to walk, with Tim taking care of our safety all the time. After the walk, we had a lunch at Long Rifle Lodge which was 10mins drive from the glacier. We had delicious menus—a blueberry taco (Tim told us that blueberries are ripe in late summer in Alaska) and a burger—that were covered in the tour. Then we were driven to and dropped off at the hotel. I thank Tim a lot for all the enjoyment we had during the trip, and I'd definitely like to join WINTER adventures in Alaska with you, next time we visit Alaska again. + Your red-tinted glasses were so stylish. Where did you get them?

We had an absolutely incredible experience on the Chase the Aurora Tour with Greatland Adventures in Fairbanks! Our guide, Mike, was not only knowledgeable but also passionate about making sure we had the best possible chance to witness the Northern Lights. From the start, Mike kept a close eye on the weather conditions and expertly navigated us to a spot with clear skies, ensuring a spectacular view of the aurora. He patiently explained the science behind this natural wonder and even taught us how to interpret different graphs to predict the best viewing times. His enthusiasm and insights added so much depth to the experience. And then came the highlight of the night—the dancing aurora! Watching the vibrant lights swirl across the sky was nothing short of magical. Sharing this moment with fellow travelers and Mike made the experience even more special. To top it off, Mike’s photography skills were outstanding—he captured breathtaking shots of the aurora and helped us take incredible photos to remember this once-in-a-lifetime moment. I highly recommend Greatland Adventures and Mike for anyone looking for an unforgettable Northern Lights tour. Their professionalism, expertise, and dedication to providing the best experience make them truly stand out!
