Went to a graduation ceremony for two great nephews this past Tuesday. There was plenty of police presence, which was good, especially considering the recent shooting at the Allen Premium Outlet Mall. We were not told until we god there that my wife's purse was too big (by a matter of a couple of inches), and so they turned us away.. We went back to the car, on Level 2 because there was no handicap parting available, and we had to walk the entire distance. When we returned, we made it to the metal detector, which is when they told me I could not carry a small pocket knife into the event center. That was fine. It would have been nice to be told beforehand what I could not bring, but the event staff took my knife and threw it away. It's a commemorative Marine Corps knife and I could not allow them to trash my personal property. So I asked for it back and the man told me no. His supervisor made him get the knife out of the trash so I could return once again to the car to lock it in. I am disabled and walk with a pronounced limp.I am a military veteran (Marine Corps). The staff infuriated me at the center. To be fair, the police officers were very kind and helpful; and pleasant while doing their jobs. I eventually made it in to the graduation ceremony. The supervisor apologized profusely about the "error" of the one member of the staff who just threw my personal property away. I appreciated her comment, but never got a word out of the actual culprit and so I will not be returning to the Allen Event Center for any reason until the man responsible for throwing away my property apologizes to me personally.
Needed:: additional parking for handicapped people. Clear and advanced notification of items allowed and disallowed sent out. The seats are too close together for taller people to site correctly. This forced me to sit at an angle, which exacerbated my back condition (two back surgeries, seven abdominal surgeries, two knee surgeries, rour eye surgeries, three nose surgeries. and teo skin cancer surgeries. Perhaps they don't care about the disabled. veterans, or the comfort of their guests. I don't know.
It was bad enough walking once with all the pain I experience, but I was forced to make the tripe three times. I will not be takling my knife with me next time, of course, but a womans purse what is close to the allowable size should be allowed if they don't give...
Read moreThis was the 2nd time me and my wife attended a Sidekicks vs. RGV Flash game at the Allen Event Center. The first time was very nice, entrance door people were polite and so were the fans. However this time around Thursday Feb. 28, 2013 it started bad from the start. Last time we missed the introduction of players since we arrived there a bit late so this time around we decided to get there earlier. Like all sports arenas we've been to, we can arrive and 1-1 1/2 early to situate ourselves and watch the athlete's warm up. Like our prior visit we were there to support a young man by the name of Juan Jr. Gamboa goalie for the RGV Flash and of course his team. We arrived there at 6:15 p.m. and being that I printed out our tickets I gathered we walk straight to the doorman and hand over our tickets. There were 2 elderly gentlemen and immediately one asked if we were the cleaning people, being that I and my wife are both Latinos. His presumption was since we are both Latinos we are the cleaning people, we were dressed formally, I a black leather jacket, polo shirt, black dress slacks, and black Stacy Adams shoes. We were both polite as to his ignorance and politely said no that we were there to attend the game. He said we were too early and that 6:30 p.m. was the earliest he lets people in, and suggested we go to the restaurant across the street to kill time. So with that I and my wife took him on his idea. You would think it would end there right, as we were making our way out he yelled, "Oh by the way while you are there get you some cerveza", at which they started laughing. At game time we were rooting for RGV Flash and being that they were winning throughout the game one of the fans a woman yelled at me and my wife to go back to Mexico. I turned to acknowledge what she said, at which she yelled at me, “Bring it on". I made eye contact with security at which he told her to calm down or she would be escorted out. One thing I have to admire is Allen Event’s Security, keeps folks from getting...
Read moreI recently attended the League of Legends LTA Finals, and the CUTX Event Center provided an experience that was certainly... memorable.
The Good: The Amazing Staff Let's start with the heroes of the day: The staff. Every single person was friendly, helpful, and clearly working hard. They deserve all the praise for making the customer-facing experience genuinely great.
The Bad: The Seating & Personal Space The seating here operates under a simple philosophy: No Personal Space Allowed. I'm convinced the seats were designed by a budget airline looking to cut corners. They are worse than coach. Forced Intimacy: Forget just touching legs—you will be bumping knees, hips, and definitely elbows with the complete stranger next to you for the entire duration of the event. If you hate having to reach out to people, this venue has solved that for you! You'll be new best friends whether you like it or not.
The Ugly: Structural Surprises A couple of things to watch out for that added some unplanned action to the day: The Seat Trap: A quick safety tip: check your furniture! The seats in the row in front of us were not properly locked down. I luckily bumped one and noticed this major hazard before someone sat down and took a nasty tumble. You might have to save a life between games! The Merch Menace: In a place where you're shelling out for event gear, it truly sucks when the building tries to destroy it. There's a sharp, exposed metal corner near the trash cans that snagged and damaged my new merchandise while I was throwing away my cup. Watch out, or your expensive loot will become a casualty of the venue's poor maintenance.
Conclusion If you can mentally prepare for the close-quarters combat of the seating and stay vigilant for structural hazards, the CUTX Event Center will host your event. Just remember to be careful with your legs, elbows, and especially...
