I went to the museum on First Thursday around 3:30. It was a perfect time to go. The museum was not crowded and parking was easy to find.
Although all of the exhibits were interesting, the one that made a big impact on me was:
Americano/The American Dream: Photographs by Tom Kiefer
On display August 10, 2024- February 9, 2025
Everyone should see this exhibit. Read all the explanations. I was very upset to learn that Border Patrol agents take away people's medications, their phones, and other important personal items.
Description from BAM website:
This exhibition brings to light the otherwise invisible facets of migrants' experiences crossing the border between Mexico and the United States. These contemporary still life photographs feature the personal possessions of migrants and asylum seekers that U.S. Border Patrol agents confiscated and discarded from 2003 through 2014.
Go to the Boise Art Museum website to see an example of these important photographs. Then go to see the exhibit. You will not be able to forget what you see and...
Read moreThe Boise Art Museum (or BAM as they nicknamed it) has SO MANY exhibits, we almost needed to come back another day. The art was amazing, thought-provoking, & made me feel so much. They had pieces from Andy Warhol and the painter of Barack Obamaâs portrait (his name is Kehinde Wiley if youâre wondering) if you needed to know how great this museum is. Itâs definitely worth the trip. The only reason it is four stars instead of five is because it was a blazing hot day, the museum itself was still pretty hot, & I would have loved a bottle of water. However, the gift shop didnât sell any, and the water fountains were closed for safety purposes. I do understand that it likely wouldnât be safe for the art. However, if there was someway to make it safe for the art & allow people to have drinks, that would really make it a top notch museum. It took about three to four hours to get through. So it is MORE than worth the price of the ticket. I highly...
Read moreThis is one of the most pleasant surprises of being in one of the most pleasant small cities of the U.S. I'll save the accolades for Boise for another review, but for this venue (like Boise itself) I have nothing but good things to say. I know, you're thinking, "Boise. What can it offer?" Well, the answer is, "A whole lot of good stuff!" The current special exhibit by Jacob Hashimoto is fun to the max. The recently ended exhibit by Jean LaMarr was first-rate history and true to the museum's commitment to diversity. Both of these exhibits illustrate the museum's commitment to art that is alive and continuing to be made. I had a transformative visit here, and I invite everyone to make a pilgrimage to the Boise Art Museum. You won't be disappointed. (Oh, and did I mention it's only $6, and $4 for seniors and...
