I wanted to an update after another 6 months of membership. I've been a member here off and on for years.
A few general comments:
The smaller size and location of the gym are positives in my view. If you need to drive and park, though, it's rough. They have parking through the hotel, but it's time limited and the garage gets full and unusable if there are lots of hotel guests or events.
The locker rooms are tiny, barely kept up (broken hooks, and doors, towels strewn about), showers are sort of just a mess (it's one big open space mostly). Also, on the mens restroom, the urinal continues to almost flood daily as it's been kind of clogged forever. You can use it, but don't flush it..
Cardio machines are ok -- getting on the older side but work well usually
Some frustrations continue to include:
They lease out the pool to external swim lessons, so there are large swaths of the day where the pool is basically unusable and kids are running around, screaming, parents are everywhere -- it's a mes
It's also the hotel pool and gym, so between that, swim lessons and normal members, it's a dirty pool if we are being honest. I used to swim here, but I've run into so many gross hairs and "things" underwater that I just can't do it anymore.
It feels like ownership has gotten a little excited post pandemic and membership growth has REALLY taken off the last few months. It's really noticeable and at peak times (4pm-7pm) it's almost impossible to get a weight workout in without massive frustrations. There's simply no space. There's one single real squat rack (the other is a smith machine type thing), a couple benches, one normal bench press ... you'll end up nearly bumping into people just trying to pick up dumbbells.
There also seem to be some third party kettle bell trainers running private training in the gym, which further takes up space and seems to always ALSO be at peak times.
During peak times -- FORGET about trying to even get changed in the locker room. It becomes like trying to change in an aircraft lavatory.
I don't know if they plan to cap memberships, but I worry they won't (like all gyms, they just love the money coming in) ... and it's now teetering on not being a usable gym option just because it's so uniquely small in terms of Sq/Ft. It just doesn't handle the extra people well.
For now I continue to go and mostly enjoy it but only because I have schedule flexibility. If I were forced to only go at after work times, it'd be a tough sell honestly.
4/5 for now -- but it's getting too crowded...
Read moreIt takes a lot for me to write a bad review, but my experience at the Grove Spa was so atrocious that I have to write this. My husband and I booked a couples' massage at The Grove Spa for a weekend "staycation," and it was one of the worst massage experiences I have ever had. Prior to our massage, neither masseuse asked us a single question about how we were feeling, whether we had any injuries, whether we wanted a particular area worked on, whether we had areas we did not work on, and no one asked if I was pregnant! They just plopped us down on the massage tables and started poking at us without asking a single question about our bodies. When we went into the massage room, the place was blasting what seemed to be some kind of medieval renaissance-fair music?? It was not relaxing at all. I asked the masseuse if they could please change the music because it made me feel like I needed to be running from something. I think my husband's masseuse left the room and just... changed the song to the next track? The exact same music played, except it was the next song on the album or something. So I laid on this massage table for an hour listening to loud ren-fair music (with a bizarre mix of waves crashing on the shore). My masseuse spent a weird amount of times on my arms-- which is not a body part that I like massaged in the first place (I would have wrote that down or told them had anyone asked me). This man squeezed the hell out of my forearms- I was physically tense on the massage bed because of how strong he gripped my forearm. I had to ask him to lighten up significantly because of how rough he was being on my arms (and I like my massages firm!). After I asked him to lighten up the pressure, he lightened up the pressure for the rest of the massage?? I had to tell him to add more pressure on my back and shoulders towards the end of the massage because it felt like he was just touching me but not really massaging. I left that massage feeling irritated and more tense than when I arrived. I am writing this review several hours later, and my forearm still hurts!! Absolutely terrible experience and I will never book another massage here again. There are far better places in Boise. The fitness area and hotel room was...
Read moreThis was the first facial I had in a very long time. I wanted to have some time for myself as working in the medical field during COVID craziness is stressful. My skin needed pampering. Tia was absolutely amazing! She was very thorough with understanding my skin type and ask several questions before hand. Something that I very much appreciate. Although I donât have sensitive skin my skin does react differently to different types of products.
Each and every step that she did she explained what was happening and the product that she was using. She asked several times if I was uncomfortable and if at any point to please let her know. At no point was I uncomfortable or did not feel total relaxation during my facial. My skin looked absolutely radiant when she was done. I had The Signature Grove Facial and although I live in Eugene Oregon I will fly there to get this done by her again!! On a sidenote she did my eyebrows which I had never had done and they look amazing tons of compliments on my skin and my facial contouring. Thank you so much for your professionalism and warm,...
