We were essentially run out of this place for singing along with the live musician. ???? It was one of the most confusing experiences of my life.
We arrived after playing a full round of disc golf and visiting Barbarian brewing (who were lovely) and Payette brewing, equally lovely.
We were greeted by Kate and Bella, who were very professional. We sat at the bar with two other patrons and there were maybe 8 other patrons in the whole place (i.e. not busy).
We ordered beer and food and settled in to our usual banter and drinking. The wonderful musician attempted Tom Petty's "Free Falling" which I encouraged and sang along. Tom Petty is passed away and from Micanope FL and I'm from Gainesville, about 5 miles away. I sang like noone was watching and thoroughly enjoyed the very good rendition of Free Falling that the musician played, while encouraging him to play and singing along.
I started to feel unwelcome. In my half drunken state, I felt that Kate and Bella would rather we not be there, and I was thoroughly confused. I had done nothing (in my view ) to upset anyone and began to feel super uncomfortable. I asked if we had paid for everything and Bella answered yes, so I felt like we should leave. Again Kate and Bella understood my confusion and attempted to explain, which I did not help because no explanation was offered as to what we had done to upset other patrons. Kate and Bella beckoned me to follow down the long ramp which I did, and no further explanation was offered. The only explanation was that the other patrons were bothered by our loud singing , which is both ridiculous (because it was a loud bar, where I could barely hear myself) and because they had a live musician that was asking for help with the songs, explaining (probably incorrectly, that he was not well versed and able to play the songs).
I feel completely absolved because I was nothing but kind to Kate, Bella and the musician and still have 0 idea what we did wrong. Were we loud, yes. Was this a bar with a musician on a public address system, also yes.
It appears to me we were run out this place because a few other patrons did not appreciate that we wanted to sing along. Mind you we were not on the mic, in our seats at the bar, and as on-key as possible and thoroughly enjoying ourselves. So I really don't see the...
Read moreVisiting Boise, Idaho in support of my Great Beer Now beer blog, my expectations were somewhat high. I had heard many great things about the beer scene in Boise and I was ready to discover new and delicious craft beers. My first place to visit was Boise Brewing, and it didn’t disappoint.
Boise Brewing is housed in its own, stand alone building. The interior takes on an industrial look and feel. The brewhouse is right there, next to the seating area and in open view. You feel like you are part of the brewing process since you can see what is going on at all times. If you want a little entertainment, they have board games and foosball.
The beer brewed at Boise Brewing is very good and I really enjoyed the Black Cliffs Stout and Jagged Shard Imperial Red Ale more than anything. Truth be told, I liked all the beer I tried when I was here. There was nothing that blew me away, but I liked every beer and each was a fine example of its respective style.
Boise Brewing doesn’t serve its own food, but guests are welcome to bring in food from other places. The location of this brewery is very good, since it is within walking distance from so many other attractions. The state capital building is about a half mile to the north and the zoo is an even shorter walk to the south. The establishment has no parking lot of its own, but there is a substantial amount of street parking so you should have no trouble finding a place for your vehicle.
I like the service at Boise Brewing and I like that they were able to answer any and all questions I asked about the brewery and its beer. It’s a place I recommend visiting and I am glad I included it on my...
Read moreOver the weekend, I went with a group of people to Boise Brewing. Our server was going around checking all the IDs since everyone was ordering drinks. I gave her mine, and she handed it back to me saying she couldn’t serve me because it had expired (by a week). After telling me she wasn’t going to serve me, the girl turned and walked away without saying anything else to me. I would have gladly paid for a non-alcoholic drink. However, this was my first time and I wasn’t familiar with the menu or what options were available as it varies from place to place. Later, I tried to engage with her so I could order something off the non-alcoholic menu and she kept ignoring me, catering to all the men in the group who had ordered beers. Instead, I tried ordering some food and it was bad.
Later that night, I said something about it to one of my friends. I come to find out that a few other people’s IDs in the group had also expired (by at least 6+ months), but they were all served. Not only were they all served alcohol, but also each of them had ordered multiple drinks. While I felt it was fair to not serve me because of an expired ID, it was not fair that the other people in my party were served. It should have been enforced on everyone with expired IDs at my table, not just mine. We also should have been given the option for the non-alcoholic drinks as a possible substitute. Sadly, this is not a place I would want to...
