Iconic building of Boston. When visiting the Wharf area of Boston, you cannot miss it! The funding for the original Custom House/Tower was approved by President Andrew Jackson, with no relation to Author "Two Sheds" Jackson. The site was purchased on September 13th, 1837. The Tower was added to the base between 1913-1915 by Peabody and Stearns , an architectural firm that also designed the Worcester City Hall, and brought the height to 496 ft, or 151 meters. The tower officially opened January 23rd, 1915. The clock ⏰, which measures 22 ft, or 6.7 meters, started keeping inaccurate time because of the small motor, on April 6th, 1916. The hands of the clock are made of gold painted Californian Redwood and weigh about 101 and 141 LBS. In 2020, the hands were replaced with carbon fiber The Great Seal of the United States was added inside in 1960. It sits on 1 acre of land. The property began redevelopment in 1997 by the Beal Companies and the Marriott Ownership Resorts International contracted Jung Brannen Associates as the architects to redesign the property into timeshare resort. It now houses 87 one bedroom 🛏️ suites, with a lounge, game and exercise room and on the 26th floor, an observation deck that is open, via reservation and a fee, to the public. The ground floor has a Maritime museum 🖼️ with exhibits, since the original Custom House collected levies and fees from the boats that docked at Boston. Information ℹ️ on the historical markers 📑 around the building says that the refurbishment style used by Peabody and Stearns was Classical 🏛️ Revival. The current name 📛 of the building is Marriott Vacation Club Pulse at Custom House, Boston. I hope to visit the inside soon 🔜, especially the...
