I had found this salon on yelp and saw all the great reviews. I even went on their instagram and was highly impressed. -Fast forward 2 weeks to my appointment- I get to the salon, check in, and sit down in one of the chairs to explain to the stylist that I had changed my mind about the hair color I wanted from when I made the appointment through instagram and I clearly stated I wanted to keep my brown hair especially to correspond with the seasons. I even showed him a photo of exactly what I was looking for. Although, it was super bizarre when I showed him THE ONE picture of what I wanted- he kept scrolling through my hair inspiration pictures I had sent to friend, whatever there was only one other hair photo. So now its time for me to head over to get my hair washed so that he can cut it. An hour and half later, I honestly loved the haircut so much which is why I didn't mind paying for that but I had a feeling in my gut that I should have just gotten up and left with just the beautiful cut. While he was finishing up cutting my hair he had mentioned something about the color and hopefully being able to lift my hair and bleach was going to damage my hair and if that was alright. In that moment, I thought he was asking me to be nice and precautious, I didn't think my entire head was going to be bleached TWICE. In 20/20 hindsight, he was indirectly asking me that so he could swindle me into dying my entire head blonde. This is an predominantly asian salon. One of the assistants I had in the beginning seemed to not even speak a word of English. I did not know what was going on and I was trying to trust the process because they're the professionals right? Not to mention that the stylist does not do any of the color, the assistants do, while the stylist has multiple clients at once. Wow, he finally came over, I asked him why he was doing this and he said it was to make me blonde like I was a year ago (which was what I wanted when I had made the appointment on instagram). I told him that was not what I had wanted and I had made that clear in the beginning of the appointment. So I showed him the picture again he said he could do the picture I originally wanted but not the other one he had accidentally seen on my phone while scrolling through my inspiration photos. I had a new assistant that was honestly super sweet but she was trying to convince me that they'd have to bleach my hair twice for "what I wanted". I told her that its not fair for me to pay 300-400 dollars for someones mistake. I didn't even get consulted for a price and she was even taken back by that. She was the one to tell me it was going to be 300-400 dollars. Guys I don't even know HOW/WHY I ended up with the color I left with. I had a mental breakdown there especially with 4 people blow drying my hair. As the color came through while blow drying I knew it was game over. I had spent almost 7 hours at the salon to only leave in tears.
I understand that there was a language barrier but there is ZERO communication here. Usually stylists bring out a color book and ask you what your goal color is, they try to match that, and consult you on a price. Every good stylist will explain to you its going to be a process and take multiple sessions. Nothing like that happened here. They want to damage your hair and have you pay $$$ to do it especially with the holidays coming up. They were just mixing up colors in their basement and playing color roulette. DO NOT GO HERE. GO TO SHAG or ANYWHERE ELSE FOR COLORS.

Came back and got Super and LOVED my cut so much. It was fast. Relatively cheap. And I absolutely love my haircut. Super could tell right away that I cut my own bangs ( ya ya I know) and he even gave me some tips on how to do a better job cutting them myself next time. PLEASE STAY THERE SUPER!!
This place looks to specialize in color, the coloring all looks amazing! Your cut quality will likely depend on the stylist, as all places.
I came a year ago and had Andy and I LOVED him. I can for a simple trim because I'm really low maintenance and I never have any idea what to do with my hair so I always just say "trim off the gross ends and let me leave" and Andy just had all these suggestions that I never would have thought of. He'd be like (nicely) oh, You have a large forehead so you want to get some bangs here, and your hair does this so we'll just want some light angles and layers here...I left loving my haircut. He was obviously talented and has an eye for what looked good for my face. Well Andy left. So this time I had Danny. I actually a photo of the exact haircut Andy gave me, and I showed it to Danny. And he did not look at it very closely, at all. The hair cut is okay - the curling is nice, and looks good. But my biggest gripe, and something that slowly bothered me more and more as I looked at my hair throughout the day - I prefer a deeper side part because of my high hair line. Andy gave me a pretty deep part and side swept bangs which helped to balance my face. Danny just parted it probably wherever it naturally fell. I even mentioned to him while he was styling it that I thought that part was too center and asked him to move it over. I'm guessing at that point he had already dried my hair and didn't want to fix it but he mentioned that he couldn't part it that way (a bit of a language barrier, so take with a grain of salt). He left me with an almost middle part that I really did not love, and by the time the end of the day came around I washed my hair, reparted it, and cut new bangs myself.
In his defense, I probably should have pushed it more but I'm just very non-confrontational and typically will not speak up, or push the issue in these situations. But I literally had a picture of my hair parted the way I prefer.
Anyway, the wash felt great - always too short! And the trim was fine. My big lesson is say is speak up!!!! Don't be like me.
This place is $65 for a cut which is one of the cheaper ones I've found. I used to go to a place that was like $45 in Chinatown and all of a sudden they raised it to like $80. So this salon is now reasonably priced to me! Scheduling was easy and they were really flexible with me being late due to traffic so I'm really grateful for...
Read moreThere are high ratings of this place, so I decided to shoot my shot! However, it was a miss. For a bit of background info, I have Indian and African-American hair. This hair salon majorly suits East-Asian hair. The hair wash went pretty well, but the hair cut was when it actually went wrong. The name of my stylist was J.K or R.J (my apologies! It was difficult hearing his name!). I asked for a 2 inch trim and then korean-curtain bangs. My hair was extremly long. Around the length of 28 inches. Plus, I haven't cut my hair in 4 years, so this was a very big deal for me. The trim started out okay, but it was more than 2 inches. Before the haircut even started, I showed a reference picture of the type of bangs I wanted. Below the chin and a style of thinner curtain bangs. The bangs turned out to be thick, and higher than my chin which is an unflattering look. I really regret choosing this place. My stylist asked me if it was okay and I replied with a disappointed "no". However, he still tried to fix it by making the bangs thinner. It didn't really work out though. He also discussed with me about how I need Japense Hair Straightening Treatment, to, what he said, "Fix my hair". My hair is Indian and African-American! It is naturally curly and thick and being told I need to "fix it" is disrespectful to my race. When I told him it was not what I wanted, he said that it was very thick and long and that it wasn't going to turn out how I wanted it to. If this is the case, he should have told me before so I wouldn't have wasted my time, money, and hair going to this salon. In total, I paid $75. Before, I was being charged less, but my hair stylist decided to talk to the nice lady at the front about raising the price. He also told her something about the situation which made both of them laugh. This is highly unprofessional and rude. I was distressed and people laughing at my sitaution doesn't make me feel any better. It takes years for me to grow my hair to it's length, and now it's much shorter than I intended it to be. Plus, I started crying a bit at that moment, and broke out into tears after I left. I am never coming here again! East-Asian hair is closer to white and western hair than South Asian and Black hair is. If you are colored, I would not reccomned this place. I left in tears and panic. Plus, I have my graduation coming up and at that moment I was thinking of not attending because of how my hair turned out. I do not need to "fix my hair". This hair salon needs to fix...
