You see, I've had a rollercoaster of a relationship with Kaju Tofu House. After coming here for years I took a long break when I figured out how to make my own at home. I went back a few times but it just wasn't the same when my less than $3 home version tasted comparable to the $14 version. And then something happened.

What else to know: On a lazy, hot-humid day I decided to stop by. I ordered my usual beef, octopus tofu soup. Within 15 minutes, the waiter came holding my soup and placed the claypot in front of me. That's when I started to get excited. To my amazement, the soup simmered for what seemed like an eternity (see my video). I couldn't even see the silky tofu that usually swims with the current of the soup. Once the steam cleared and the bubbling calmed, I made my way to the broth and found treasures of tofu, beef, and octopus. These were much fresher and larger than what I remembered. When I took the first sip, I couldn't believe how spicy and rich the flavor was and once I made it halfway, I was practically sad not wanting it to end. By the last drop of soup, I suddenly remembered why I enjoyed Kaju Tofu House in the first place which was for the value and the comforts of their stew.
When comparing the last few times to my most recent, the taste was like night and day. It's a rare feat for a well established restaurant with an already huge fan base to improve their dishes like that. Perhaps they have some Jedi Mind reading powers and wanted me back as a customer. Whatever the case maybe, it worked. I'm back and lovin' it. Kudos to...
Read moreTerrible service, mediocre food and OVERCHARGED. I'm a local college student with A LOT OF STUFF TO DO so the fact that I'm even on here writing this much about my terrible experience speaks testimony to the fact that you should not go here. I went with 3 friends to celebrate a birthday and we were sat down in the dingiest corner. We were given water and menus straight away and ordering was fine but it took 50 MINUTES to get just our starters(kimchi, salad etc.), whilst a group of men that came in AFTER US managed to get their starters straight away. Maybe because we were a group of women the staff decided that we'd be easier to ignore and placate while they tend to other customers that arrived later than us? Unacceptably rude. When we finally got our food (an hour and 20 minutes later) it came at all different times and we only ordered simple clay pots. My chicken clay pot was mediocre, was supposed to come with rice and vegetables but I only got rice, some stringy onion and rubbery chicken. Then the waiter had the cheek to come over and ask if "everything is okay for the ladies in the corner", which was creepy as hell. Decided to not tip for terrible service and mediocre food which is my prerogative and the total came up to $16.04. Checked my bank balance today and they took out $18.04. This is not about complaining over $2.00, but it is about PRINCIPLE. If I had a bad experience at a restaurant and choose to not leave a tip that is my choice and by taking anything more it is simply, STEALING. Not impressed at all, this is the worst restaurant experience I've had in Harvard Square and the Cambridge area. Go anywhere but here, and take your money to a place that respect you not only as a customer but as a human being. Do...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at Kaju Tofu House in Allston, Boston, and I must say it was well worth the wait in the queue. As a fan of tofu soup, I was thrilled to hear that Kaju Tofu House was reputed to serve some of the best tofu soup in the area, and they did not disappoint.
Despite the initial wait, the service at Kaju Tofu House was quick and efficient. The staff was attentive and friendly, making sure our dining experience was enjoyable. The restaurant itself had a cozy ambiance, perfect for a casual meal with friends or family.
The highlight of the meal was, without a doubt, the kimchi beef tofu soup. The rich and flavorful broth paired perfectly with the tender beef and the tanginess of the kimchi. The portion sizes were generous, leaving us feeling fully satisfied. Additionally, we also ordered galbi and spicy pork, which were both delicious and complemented the meal nicely.
On another occasion, I had the opportunity to order takeout from Kaju Tofu House. I ordered 20 tofu soups for a gathering with friends, and the restaurant went above and beyond to accommodate our request. The order was prepared promptly, and the food was packed securely, ensuring it arrived fresh and piping hot. My friends were delighted with their tofu soups, and it was evident that the restaurant put love and care into their preparations.
