Just came from early morning Olympic lifting class after having done “Oly” the night before. (don’t worry, last night was snatches and this morning was cleans) It got me thinking about the other Specialty classes this week - Endurance and Gymnastics on Monday night and Barbell class on Tuesday night and how I’m still sore (in a good way) from those classes. It also got me thinking about how well designed the Specialty workouts are and how well coached they are. It doesn’t matter your fitness or skill level, there’s always a modification so that you can start somewhere and measure your progress each week. I can’t say enough about the coaching at this gym and how each and every one of the coaches are both knowledgeable and patient and really care about each member and work with them to make tweaks in form in order to help them achieve success. This is really what separates this gym from others from a coaching standpoint. The WOD’s (workout of the day) which I do just about everyday as well and that’s because I always read them and say to myself “ooh this is going to be a good one” and I tell people that the best part about each WOD is that you just show up and it’s written out for you. There’s no getting to the gym and trying to figure out what to do that day. Also, each WOD is designed to hit different muscle groups and coordinated in a way so that you can do it each day without repeating the same exercises in that week. If you’re competitive (as I can be), then, there’s that aspect too since it’s such a community atmosphere here and we push each other and cheer for each other, but, we can also look at the board to see what others are doing and quietly try to beat those scores. It’s always friendly rivalries that develop especially when you’re working out right next to someone and that’s where the competitive spirit comes out, but, always in a good way since we’re all here to improve ourselves both physically and mentally. The owner of the gym (also a coach) is highly involved and takes the time to get to know each new member that comes through the door and always projects a positive vibe into the gym. He’s passionate about fitness and is always looking for different ways to improve the fitness experience from a mental and physical aspect. If you’ve never been to Chimney Rock CrossFit, then, check it out some Saturday morning and see what a fun way it is to start your weekend or come down on Monday morning and start your week off in a positive way, you...
Read moreAt age 49 (2.5 years ago) my wife tricked me into working out at Chimney Rock CrossFit. I had always known CrossFit was an academically excellent exercise program, but I did not think I could keep up. I have always been overweight and do not consider myself an athlete. I was floored at how friendly, welcoming, and nonjudgmental all the coaches were. The value of not having to engineer my own workout has been tremendous. I love being supervised during our workouts. The coaches watch me and prevent me from performing the motions expected with poor form, thereby protecting me from injury and imbalance. To this day I still am intimidated by the workouts when I walk in the door. When I leave after the workout, I feel grounded as I’ve achieved something important. I’ve lost weight, gained muscle, and feel happier and healthier than ever before. I thought I knew how to work out well on my own. I didn’t. I consider my membership an investment in my life and the life of my family. I feel grateful and blessed to have...
Read moreDropped in twice in a week from out of town. This box has a great community, great coaches, and they are very organized. My husband called in advance to let them know I would be coming in and they remembered my name on both days, two different coaches. It's like they communicated with each other that I would be there. This is a rare thing at gyms. So, that made me feel welcome along with they have everyone in the class shake your hand and introduce themselves. This was also something I have never seen done before and it really made me feel comfortable being there in class for only a couple times. Also, they have great workouts. It didn't look like they had an electronic way of tracking workouts (Wodify or SugarWod), which I would miss if I was a member there but besides that, great facility, great people. Highly,...
