Bottom line: most expensive & worst theater experience I've had post-pandemic
I travel full time and like to watch discount Tuesday movies wherever I go. Most places, this is in the neighborhood of $5 - Cinema West, Cinemark, Regal all provide that (though usually you have to be a member of their free membership tier.) And mind you, every theater I've been to this year has those nice recliner seats, sometimes even loveseats if you want to cuddle up.
When I visited home for Christmas, I've been disappointed to find the Tuesday discount for AMC theaters is $9, well above the rest of the country. And that's for aging, non-recliner seats, and an overall filthy theater. (And that's besides the overall rudeness of other people - cell phone usage, talking out loud, propping bare feet up on the backs of seats, etc. This last time, the guy sitting right in front of me left halfway through the movie to smoke a joint. The fumes when he came back made my eyes water.)
I will say, I went to a special showing in the "Big D" theater and enjoyed it more. The seats are more comfortable, but I'd still hate to watch a "Killers of the Flower Moon"-length movie in them. And the sound in both movies this week was very good, theater temp ok, and the young staff does well.
One last word about parking. In big letters above the door walking in, they proclaim free parking with your movie ticket. Park in the garage above and they'll validate your pass BUT that's only good for 3 hours. For my 3-hour movie, I was parked for 3.5 hours and had to pay $3 that I wasn't expecting - felt like one more kick in the pants on the way out! Better to park for free on the street after 6pm.
I'd rather drive to any other theater than revisit the downtown AMC that's literally around the corner from where I'm staying. And as run-down as the Chattanooga Regal is, for the prices and recliners, I'll probably only go there.
I don't think Chattanoogans know how bad they have it with AMC. It's not like this in...
Read moreHaven’t been to a theater in years and after going to this place it will be years before I ever go again. Tried to get my son something out of the claw machines and they are all rigged to fail every time, the claw doesn’t even come down or come anywhere near the prizes after hitting the grab button. I know some people might say they are all rigged but you at least have a chance with most of them, this one gives you 0% chance. Other than people selling popcorn there are no other employees around at all, we weren’t sure where to go or who to show our tickets to upon entering. No one watching the entrance at all, anyone could’ve walked in and watched a movie for free. We came to watch the Minecraft movie and ended up having this large group of drunk clowns (must’ve been 15-20 of them) sitting behind us that would not shut up, constantly making these stupid little comments and clapping during every action scene. I had to stand up and ask them to please be quiet but they ignored me. Would’ve been nice to have had an employee or manager ask them to be quiet but again, no one around to ask. When we first sat down the screen was showing commercials but there wasn’t any sound until the previews came on. I thought I was gonna have to go ask someone to turn the sound on. Then again as we were leaving the entire place was empty and quiet, looked like a ghost town in there. I was going to see about asking for a partial refund because we could not enjoy our movie at all but there wasn’t anyone around to ask. This is why I typically watch movies at home, never going to...
Read moreWe were watching a 3D movie, but the employee forgot to gave us the 3D glass. Had to run back to the counter to get them.
Popcorn had waaay to much salt!
Price for online Convenience Fee of $2.69 per ticket is outrageous, same for the food price at the concessions ($6 ish for a regular size soda). And they don't do combo for one drink and one popcorn, this is very unfriendly for solo movie goer or couple who just wants to share one drink and one popcorn. High cost on tickets, fees, and food is likely why it drive more and more people away from going to movie theater. It has become a very expensive activity.
Wish they have recliner seats. Time for upgrade to stay compete in this competitive market.
With a big popular movie on the releasing weekend, 6:30pm 3D movie, there were probably ~20-30 guests only in our auditorium. Wishing going to a movie can be a more affordable activities so more people can afford to go.
Restroom need more cleaning, trash bin had overflown. They have a lot of employees there, but did not seem to actively doing valuable work or try to make the environment clean.
There is no clear sign showing which auditorium is playing which movie. The only info is on your ticket. They seem to have a digital board in the ticketing hall, but it wasn't used/on, wasn't sure if that is still functioning.
The biggest selling point of this AME Classic Majestic 12 might be its location. Being in the heart of the downtown, for tourists staying at the downtown area hotels, it's easily accessible.
I would not recommend this theater unless you don't have...
