So typically I love this place. The novelty is great and the selection is on point. I want to preface this by saying other than my most recent experience, I've never had a bad one here. Even the one I'm about to mention isn't necessarily bad, but it was pretty annoying. Here goes.
I went in on Sunday with my boyfriend 10/16/16 to grab a few bottles. We probably spent about 20 minutes inside browsing and shopping. As we walked around a picked up a few bottles of pop and put them into our six-packs. Most of them we grabbed from around the store, a couple we grabbed from the cooler (in particular a couple that wanted to drink right after we left).
As we were shopping I heard an employee telling another to take bottles from around the store instead of from the coolers. He said it in a nice enough tone, but it was more insisting and less asking. A few minutes later he came and said the same thing to us, despite most of our selection having already come from around the store and not the cooler. He saw us take 2 bottles from the thing and pounced.
I didn't feel like starting an issue, or pointing out that most everything we had DID NOT come from the cooler, or to ask what's the point in even having one if you're going to go behind every customer and ask them not to use it. Instead I thanked him for letting us know and went about my way shopping.
We picked up a few more things and added them to our backs, and as we were looking to fill the last spot we walked past the coolers again and saw something we liked, so we grabbed it. This guy gave me such a hard side eye I expected it to roll back inside his head.
We went up to counter to check out, and this time we got a full on lecture about not taking items from the cooler because he'll have to restock them, and instead we should take them from around the store.
So my issues with this experience are that:
I was under the impression that it was their jobs to stock the coolers. What's the point in having them if you're going to discourage the customers from using them? Especially if we want a couple of cold drinks. Are they just for show? Are they look but don't touch coolers? I'm confused.
I am obviously very pregnant. Suggesting that I go waddling around the entire store to find all the items I want instead of just grabbing one that's in front of me not just a nuisance (because the guy was literally watching us), but also a straight up insult. I'm clearly huge and having trouble maneuvering through all the people, and he's so concerned about having to restock the coolers that he'd inconvenience a pregnant woman with extra leg work just so his job might be a little easier that night?
As I mentioned above, we weren't the only people he said this to. He was actually watching people and going up to them to ask that they not take drinks from the cooler. It was definitely weird and almost creepy. No one needs big brother watching them while they shop - especially when they're about to give your store money.
Most of the ones we had were warm. Out of the 10 that we bought, only 3 were from the cooler and we wanted to drink two of those immediately. How nitpicky can you be?
So I don't know if it's your store policy to go around policing who gets what from the cooler, but I suggest either getting rid of them if it's that much of an issue, or backing off and letting people shop comfortably. No one is interested in coming into your store to pay $30 for pop and being followed around and reprimanded...
Read moreRocket Fizz is throw back candy and soda pop shop located in the heart of the Columbus downtown area. Walking into Rocket Fizz was like going back into time as a kid with all of the soda pop on display, colorful tin signs on the walls, and collection of new and vintage candy on the display floor. Rocket Fizz probably has most if not every soda pop product being currently distributed in the states. Soda pop in glasses are a rarity in most groceries outside the usual suspects (Coco-Cola, Sprite). The variety of soda pops available is overwhelming. I was able to find Jelly Belly soda pop in a variety of flavors, something I hadn't seen before.
When it comes to candy, this place has a large variety of salt water taffy that covers almost one half of a wall. They even let you have a sample or two before you decide on a flavor. One thing that surprised me was that there was a middle section that had Japanese candy varieties such as Pocky and Hi-Chews, as well as green tea Kit-Kats. The one issue I may have with the place are the soda pop prices, it is not cheap. Each bottle is about $2.20 per bottle with a $.50 discount available when you buy 4 bottles. Regardless, this is a fun place to drop in every now and then and indulge...
Read moreI cannot say enough good things about this amazing shop! I work across the street and honestly, never really noticed it. I don't consider myself a "candy or soda person" but I bumped into a friend on the street and she insisted I check it out. Boy, am I glad I did! I went in and met the owner, Lex. He's super friendly and knowledgeable. He legit knows the history of every item in there!
Now that I've had the taste of the good life, I will never eat American chocolate again! They have chocolates from all over the world! Once you try a Brazilian Snickers, you won't go back. My personal fav is the Hazelnut Milka bar. I was never into taffy before, but I am now! I recommend Juicy Pear, Strawberry, Strawberry Lemonade, Tropical Punch, Blue Raspberry, and Kiwi... just to name a few.
If you haven't visited Rocket Fizz, the time is NOW! Trust me, you...
