Dr. Heidi Zinser was extremely aggressive with me. She was trying to force me to deny treatment on my sick dog because I asked if there was any possibly way to lessen my bill. The initial bill was $2500 for an overnight stay.. which is honestly crazy. I asked was there any other option so the tech came back with a $500 bill and lessened the treatment plan as we were ultimately going to opt in to some at home care. I wanted to do as much at home as possible because emergency rooms can become expensive. Even though the doctor pressured me into overnight stay saying he may die if I took him home……… But it was Saturday and the vet wasn’t going to open until Monday morning and my pup was in critical condition. After asking the tech if there was any way to lessen the bill Heidi came and told me to sign my name stating that I’m denying care……. I said but I’m not denying care. She said you told me that you didn’t want to do the IV fluids so go ahead and sign.. she was forcibly point to the line on the clip board totally disregarding what I was saying. I held the clip board to my chest trying to get her to listen then she reached (I honestly thought she was going to hit me) and demanded her pen back. I don’t know why the doctor felt like it was okay to invade my personal space, reach for and demand her pen in this manner.. she hadn’t asked for it previously.. it was an extremely aggressive way to ask for her pen.. It wasn’t until after I told her this is becoming an unpleasant experience she realized she was being irrational. I told her I only had questions about the bill never declined the treatment. She made sure to acknowledge that she had other patients and couldn’t take 2 mins to answer my questions….. after realizing she was being irrational she did apologize.. not for her behavior but for the misunderstanding. And I told her yes I’ve been trying to effectively communicate with you. I took the expensive treatment for the sake of my dog but I was super nervous about leaving him in her hands with his condition .. I just wanted to leave this review and tell my story because the doctor was out of line. I think the most important attributes to have in situations of emergencies are patience and effective communication. Oh and just plain ol decency and compassion. I had a negative experience, a very large bill which the treatment only included iv fluid and two prescription medicines… ($500), and I felt to blame because the doctors kept stressing how dehydrated my dog was… he’s been throwing up and having diarrhea all day.. that would cause dehydration but iit almost seemed like the finger was pointed at me…. I paid $3000 for my toy poodle and upkeep him ver well… the very least I can do for him is give him water. I even assured the doctor I gave him pedialyte.. i hope to never have to come back.
Totally forgot to mention, while in the lobby, the staff was talking about a family as they were walking up to the door from the parking lot. They mockingly said “ oh it’s that family who had money issues and couldn’t pay for their dog to stay” . Their pup was on it’s last breath the family said as they walked in.. I assume the hospital told the family to bring the dog back near the end… and so they did. The family doesn’t know that the staff aired out their financial hardships to whoever was in the lobby at the time.. wasn’t many people but I was there to witness it. It was extremely unprofessional. Also inconsiderate considering this hospital totally over charge their...
Read moreIf I could give zero stars, I would. I would not recommend this clinic to anyone. My dog had experienced a grand mal seizure earlier in the day which I was in touch with my vet about. Later in the evening he appeared to suffer a smaller seizure so as a recommendation from my primary vet he needed emergency care.
Upon arrival there was no one at the front desk and no way to let them know someone had arrived (a bell on counter, door ding). Mind you this is an EMERGENCY vet!! I waited about 5-7 minutes before a young heavy set woman came casually strolling back to the front desk.
Crying I told her my dog had a seizure and I needed help getting him out of the car as he was unable to walk from the parking lot. She showed zero sense of urgency & was very condescending in her tone. She and another rude woman came out to the car to assist getting him out. I explained he is scared of people, not aggressive in the least and they’d need to step aside so I could coax him out easier. The second woman says “Ma’am are you saying your own dog won’t let you pick him up?” What?!? Did I say that??? Then she insisted I muzzle him. After I got him out they put him on a gurney, took him to the back and I didn’t see my dog for over 3 hours.
I waited in the waiting room for an HOUR before even speaking to a vet about what was all going on and giving one shred of his history. While speaking to her she also showed little to no empathy. I asked why he wasn’t in the room with me. Was someone watching him? Was he seizing again alone in a cold cage with a muzzle on? She said he was resting in the back. She told me my options and said she’d be back after I had a chance to consider everything and call my husband. I literally never saw her again. Not once. I sat in a freezing cold room with a flat dead roach in the floor alone for over an hour!
Finally after popping my head out of the room several times to ensure I wasn’t forgotten about the woman at the front desk came in and went over the options with me - keep him overnight for at least 12 hours for observation, get an X-ray, an MRI, 4 different medications, an IV, etc… When I told her I had decided I just wanted to take him home and keep him comfortable her response was “so you decline, sign here.” There was no way my dog was staying overnight at this incompetent place, I just wanted him out.
I then proceeded to wait another HOUR before I was able to pay & get his prescribed medication which she very quickly and condescendingly went over with me. She stated the wait time was due to a slow drip IV medication they were giving him. When they brought him out to me they laid him on the lobby floor (he could hardly stand or walk and the floors were slippery) & he was still muzzled!! The woman did pick him up and help me put him in my car AFTER she removed the muzzle in the lobby - make that make sense.
They were supposed to send all the medical information to my vet overnight. As of 8 AM the next morning they hadn’t received anything. He ended up having another grand mal seizure the next morning and we decided it was time to put him down so he wasn’t suffering anymore.
A MONEY GRAB is all this place had to offer us. Complete waste of time & money not to mention emotional distress. I’ll be sharing my experience with my primary vet and advise them not to recommend this emergency...

I’m attaching 3 photos. One of my dog before he came in, one right after the procedure, and a couple days after.
It’s really sad to say that this vet office is still up and running. I should’ve read the reviews before coming here. My dog had gotten attack by another dog. Pretty intense trauma to his head and eye. He needed it to be cleaned out, stitches inserted, and a wound drain. I knew this type of procedure would be expensive, but they quoted me $4000 dollars for it all to be taken care of. I trusted them with my pup I care very much for. We ended up paying around $3,700. About TWO days later his entire face is swollen and his wound is draining an awful smell. He needed to be examined and I called them to tell them what was going on…the first person I talked to kept telling me that my dog didn’t get his procedure done here and told me I needed to go where it was done. It took me 3 times of telling her that it was done here for her to actually look it up and check. Then the 2nd time I called I asked to speak to the doctor and they asked me why. I politely told them I wanted to talk to him to just hear everything out of what went on and the instructions to care for my pup afterwards. She told me I should’ve received an email with discharge instructions. Mind you my dog had the procedure done on 10/29 and it is now 10/31. I told her I didn’t receive any email. She then proceeded to send me the email and as she was hanging up I was trying to ask her if I could speak to the doc but before I finished she had already hung up the phone. I was very emotionally frustrated and running off little to no sleep. I just felt like I was being shrugged off when my dog needed serious attention for something they did wrong. I went up there to speak with the manager and express what had happened to me and how upset I was for spending thousands of dollars on my pup. In sum they were nice but all they said was I have to pay the $104 for the recheck up (even after I paid thousands of dollars for them to fix him). I walked out in tears and they still weren’t even willing to give me a discount. So I called multiple other clinics and the only one that was available to take my pup and look at him for a reasonable price was VETERINARY HOSPITAL OF NEW WAVERLY (THEY'RE AMAZING)! They told me they had basically sewed up the traumatic wound on my dogs head that had an abscess and it began to push itself into the surrounding tissue. So they quoted me everything that needed to be done. They had to basically go back in do everything over again see what was done wrong by this clinic and appropriately care for it all while being a max of $650!! That’s it. That’s how it should be.
My advice is to go somewhere that cares and is not just about the money.
As for this clinic when you read this. I pray you understand what it feels like to be on the other end of it. What if something like this happened to you and your pup? I know you wouldn’t be able to bear it. I just pray you all are able to turn it around for the better and put your patients before thousands of dollars. Or better yet if you’re going to charge that much at least do it thoroughly and make sure you did...
