
I went in to Blaze as a first time customer and worked with Gina. I went in with light blonde hair with 2â of my natural outgrowth which is a neutral blonde. I told Gina that I wanted to be all over natural blonde because Iâm starting my natural hair journey. She colored my hair and once it was dried and styled it was a dimensional brown that was multiple shades darker than my natural hair. I had multiple front pieces that were so dark it looked black. Not once did she mention it would fade. I called Blaze after I got home (the hardest thing a hair client could ever do) and I told her it was significantly darker than what I asked for and if she could fix it. She immediately told me to just wash it a few times. Even if I washed it would still be brown. She reluctantly told me to come back. I was not upset with her, I just wanted what I paid almost $200 for. Once I arrived the owner Noah sat next to me and proceeded to tell me that the color I left with is indeed my natural color. I told him that my natural color is a honey blonde and what I left with is indeed dark brown. He proceeded to tell me that I was wrong and that I just needed to wash it. I kindly explained that wasnât true because it would still be a shade of brown and I am blonde. He continued to press and stated he has 25 years of hair experience so he âkinda knows what heâs doing.â I was very impacted by the way he was conducting himself and his words. I was not rude, or upset when I walked in. I simply wanted to have what I paid for. I also run a business of my own and I understand wanting to protect your employees, but there was nothing to protect. I was extremely kind on the phone, and when I arrived the second time. I have never called a salon asking for my hair to be fixed. We as clients dread even the thought. I went in for a simple fix and received defensive comments and was told that I was wrong. I was given two options: highlights on my newly colored hair or a shampoo treatment. No other compensation considering my hair was dark brown and wouldnât be close to what I asked for. As a new client you are supposed to receive a free eye brow wax or conditioning treatment- I was offered neither. I am very disappointed with the owners reaction, and Iâm disappointed that I wasted almost $200 and multiple hours of my day off. Steer clear of this salon.    Read moreIf I could give 0 stars I would. Last minute appointment for my 12-year-old daughter who wanted her hair cut. We met the stylist and she began asking a lot of questions. I thought, great, she really wants to get a feel for how my daughter wants her hair. We showed her a series of pictures to give her an idea of length and the stylist continued to ask questions...some of which my daughter was having a hard time answering. âDo you want layers or for it to be a softer look?â âWhatâs your favorite aspect of all these photos?â As the questioning and level of intensity continued, I started to get nervous that maybe the stylist was unsure of how to give her the style she wantedâan inverted bob. It seemed simple, yet we had never been to this stylist and maybe she was new. The stylist then got very defensive and said, âI just need to make sure I know EXACTLY what she wants.â I told her that was fine, she just wants something like the pictures we showed youâsame length, same style. She said, âI donât know how the hair was cut in those picturesâit could be shaven underneath or thinned out, or layered.â I said, âThatâs okay, I think she just wants something similar, it doesnât have to be exact.â She then told me she would have to get the owner. I thought this strange, but said okay, thatâs fine. Maybe he had some pointers for the stylist on what my daughter was wanting. When she came back with the owner, he told me in an annoyed and angry tone that the stylist couldnât cut my daughter's hair if we were both telling her different things and I would have to wait out front. First, I had no idea what he was talking about. I tried to explain that wasnât the case and I was just trying to help my daughter explain what she wanted as the stylist had a lot of questions. He then yelled at the stylist and told her, âYou need to get this situation under control! In the future, moms need to wait in the front and you take ONLY the child back to the chair!â He then walked off. It was so bizarre. The stylist said she was so sorry, this isnât what she told him the problem was, but at this point I was in shock and told her the appointment was not going to work out and we left. Never, in all my years of getting my hair cut, have I ever experienced anything as rude or unprofessional as this. Completely unacceptable.    Read moreAfter reading some of these reviews, I was a little nervous to go here. I was trying to find a place in Iowa City reliable enough to have my hair done there consecutively, and I have to be honest, I'm pretty picky about my hair.
I am so glad I went! I have only been to one stylist, Rhiannon, but she is awesome! My hair has never looked so good or been as healthy. I like to do a lot of different things with my hair and have acquired a lot of damage to it over the years. After a few suggestions from her, my hair is back to it's healthy, shiny self. I have never felt pressured to buy anything since I have been going here. If you don't want something, say you don't want it. Done.
The only thing I would even be close to telling someone to think about before they go there is about the price. A lot of people think the prices are high, but somehow I feel like they aren't realizing that, in this case, you're paying for quality. I have had my hair butchered in Iowa City for a low budget, so you get what you pay for. Honestly, color is always going to be expensive where ever you go. I just prefer to spend that little extra for it to look that much better!
