Hardly anything historic left here, mostly signs indicating the history of the town. The Gem Saloon is not the original nor is it on the original property. Chinatown is nothing but a small strip of chainsaw carvings with Wu’s place a current gambling joint (wu was fictional but he was modeled after a real person). Even no. 10 saloon where Hickok was shot has nothing to indicate the history, it’s just another bar. Graveyard is on a very steep hill to walk up, difficult for older folks. If you go take the tour bus. Parking is very hard to find, do not take anything larger than a pickup truck. There are tons of casino games, so many that at night all you see is neon, casinos are in nearly every single establishment, no interesting stores to shop in, only a handful of repetitive junky tourist shops. We did eat at the Silverado, the restaurant is located hidden downstairs in the basement with the main floor all slot machines and gambling casino equipment. All the restaurants are like that, hunt for the food past the gambling areas. Silverado did have good home cooking food, it’s buffet style all you can eat, about $23 per person, worth the price. Desert is included! We took the tour bus which was a good idea, we would have missed a lot if we wandered on our own. We were there at the very end of the season and there wasn’t a lot happening like others have reported. Would like to have timed it so we could have seen the mock-shootouts. They have a nighttime ghost tour but we were there in the daytime and could not return. Overall the town was a disappointment as I was expecting more historical remnants of the town. Since deadwood burned down several times over the years all you really get are historical notes on signs throughout the town. It doesn’t even have a western vibe to it. This is not a worthwhile destination, I would not recommend...

It was a bit difficult finding parking in Deadwood on our first visit. One public parking said closed, but it had cars in it, some didn’t seem to say anything and we weren’t sure where we’d have dinner. We ended up parking further away than we wanted, but it was a public parking where we could figure out how to pay for the parking.

We went into one of the first casino/hotels that we found and were going to have dinner there, but they couldn’t get us in until 9 pm (2 hours later) and the same with the buffet. In spectacular news, we got reservations at Snitches on OpenTable! We walked to Tin Lizzie’s, had an amazing meal, and rolled ourselves back to our car. Snitches is our new high expectations for what a steak should be and the price was awesome. We probably should have taken the $1/person shuttle to Tin Lizzie’s, but it was a good walk and we got to play tourist a little.

There were many Pokemon Go stops/gyms along...

My family and I were quite surprised at how unfriendly the store owners/employees were in a majority of the businesses we went in. I get that it’s a tourist town and I know tourists can be “annoying” but when your business depends heavily on tourism you would think you could hide your disdain a little more. One shop we went in (Jack Daniel’s) wouldn’t even acknowledge us. We waited at the counter to pay for over 5 minutes of being purposely ignored so eventually we just left our stuff on the counter and left. The stores themselves have very little that is unique, just seems to be a repeat after repeat of the same general stuff. Food was alright but expensive. The Wild West shootout was very good and the gentleman that do it are very talented. Appreciate that they took the time to walk around and talk to the crowd, they do a great job! Mount Moriah is a...

Loved Deadwood! So much history and so many things to see. We stayed there for a weekend the end of April and it was not enough time to even begin to do everything I'd like to do. It's definitely one of those towns that you could come back to many times and still not see everything. Quaint, charming and full of history. Friendly people, great vibes! PS - The last weekend in April was a great time to go because they had lower pre-season rates on hotels and the weather was beautiful. There's a lot more activity in the summer with lots of shows in the streets etc but for a 1st time visit, April was a wonderful time to go.

We visited downtown for the afternoon. We walked around and enjoyed all the stores they had to offer. Plenty of gifts and souvenirs to go around. We ate lunch and just enjoyed the scenery. Its a small town filled with great history. On our way out the next morning, we drove by 6 am when Noone was on the streets, it was pretty cool to see it filled with people one day and rhe next early morning empty. we parked in the public parking lot by visitor center and walked downtown.

The kind of extreme human extraction and domination of nature and the land. The mining history is now replaced primarily with a gambling centered industry. Honestly, what kind of quality of life could one be looking for from this long term? Good times for short times though, hopefully! When visiting this area, it makes one wonder how many Native American graves were in these hills and disregarded, scoffed at for even mentioning by all the “brave cowboys.”
