We stayed at the Celebrity for three nights this summer. It's our first time back since they reopened in 2020 and it was a huge disappointment.
Housekeeping isn’t provided if you're staying for longer than one night but we didn’t find this out until we checked in. Dirty towels and garbage had to be placed in a plastic bag (if you can find one) and left in the hallway. If we needed clean towels/coffee etc, we had to fill out a form and drop it off at the front desk prior to 11 am.
The king room we were in is poorly appointed and didn’t smell that great. It was very cramped due to a huge armoire that took up one entire wall. In the bathroom, the faucet didn’t clear the edge of the sink adequately so everytime we turned on the faucet, water was all over the counter. The counter itself is tiny and there wasn't enough room for our stuff (which was minimal), the coffee maker and the hair dryer. Although the surfaces were initially clean in the bathroom, when I turned on the fan, dust particles big enough for me to see, fell through the grated ceiling and covered everything - it was so disgusting.
Room keys are real keys and we sometimes couldn't open our door because the lock mechanisms are loose inside the doorknob. The tv remote control didn’t work and when we asked for new batteries, they didn’t have any. Instead the woman took the batteries out, spit on her fingers and rubbed the spit on the end of the batteries – she said the “trick” usually worked. Wow! Wow! Wow! Ceiling tiles by the elevator on the 2nd floor are missing and the hallways smell like stale smoke which is typical of hotels that became non-smoking but never bothered to change the carpets, wall paper or furnishings which all retain the smell of smoke.
The hotel location and the outdoor patio overlooking the main street are the only nice features of this hotel. For those of you who may be wondering about the King suite with the “private patio”…well, it’s absolutely NOT private. This room has garden doors that open onto the PUBLIC patio and their “private patio” is separated from the public patio with a railing. What a joke! It’s certainly not worth the extra money they want for this room.
Obviously the new owners aren’t doing anything to maintain or improve the property and they should stop misleading people by claiming the hotel is luxurious. It’s kinda dirty and frankly, has seen better days. Service is less than acceptable and if I wanted to empty the garbage, make the bed and fill out forms, I would have stayed at home and gone to work. We...
Read moreStayed there last summer on a motorcycle trip. Got nothing but a bad time from the maintenance/parking lot person. About the motorcycle in there lot. Up early one day and walked outside to lot and saw the overnight maintenance guy blowing sand/dirt from behind building into the parking lot where bikes were parked.
They don't like motorcycle!!!
Ya, good question. Why did I wait a year to say anything? Well, I was going to take my lumps over the stay and just move along and take my business elsewhere.
We are in the planning stage for a trip to South Dakota again and I decided to look at the reviews for the Celebrity Hotel. After reading how others were treated I decided to relay our full experience with the Celebrity Hotel.
Here is the whole story. We got to the hotel checked in and parked the bike in the lot. There were no signs stating where bikes were to be parked so we took a spot in the lot. Got to our room and after about 10 minutes we had someone violently banging on our door. The person said I needed to move that dam motorcycle and park in the back corner of the building. Went and moved the bike
That first night our bike was tampered with while sitting in the lot. We saw the tampering and corrected it as best as we could. Got it repaired when we got home. Came back after a day of riding, lifted the chain and rode into the lot. Parked in the back corner. The maintenance/lot guy came out and questioned me on how I got into the parking lot without letting him know. Again, very aggressive and rude attitude towards us.
Next morning was when I went out early to see the overnight guy using a leaf blower to blow a buildup of sand/dirt from behind the building onto the bikes and cars parked in the corner of the lot. Bikes took the brunt of the sand/dirt. Being parked in the corner. When we got back for the day again, we lifted the chain and parked in the back corner. Again, we got confronted with a very aggressive and rude attitude on how we got in the lot without contacting him. That is the day we decided to end our stay early and move to another hotel to get away from the rude aggressive behavior.
Like I said this hotel does not like motorcycles, be warned!!! My business will...
Read moreWe reserved accidently reserved a room in the branch house and called the front desk to ask if we could get the luxurious suite we wanted. Sadly the room was reserved but we could get the mini luxurious suite so I will give a little insight on what I saw in the branch house... Pay the extra $20 to not stay at the branch house. It's across the street from check in and has plenty of parking. You walk inside your room and it honestly doesn't look bad. There plenty of natural lighting and the living area looks better than I expected. The sleeping area is where I was disappointed. The tv was a small 10 or 12 inch box tv and the carpet had stains. Overall did not feel clean. Now the mini luxurious suite... The mini luxurious suite is connected to the same building as where you check in/the casino. The parking is next to the building but it's small and an employee needs to unlock the parking area for you(we wanted to drive around but felt we would inconvenience someone). I did not hear the casino from our room but I could hear the street that was right outside our window. The tv was an old box tv (lcd, plasma, and led are cheap now a days and it would go a long way) there was no microwave or mini fridge in our room. Bed was comfortable and blankets weren't the crunchy loud blankets you normally get at hotels. overall room seemed clean. The bathroom has a deep tub and separate shower. The tub and shower were small but looked clean. Overall I would stay there again but I wouldn't be against looking at the other hotels...
