I dined alone, I am a single senior citizen, service was fantastic, Troy went above & beyond to satisfy! I had to special order buffalo ravioli without mushrooms as I am very allergic. Then my order came & it was in a red (tomato) based sauce, not like the picture on line, at all. Since I am also allergic to tomatoes, I asked if anything could be done? Troy offered to have them rinsed & redone with a cream sauce, which was agreeable. Then as an after thought I showed him the online pic in the butter sauce & he laughed & said , "Oh that picture is likely 4 yrs. old, but it's a brown butter & sage sauce, would you prefer that?" I said an emphatic YES! So they remade my order from scratch & it was surprisingly quick. I enjoyed every bite, it was terrific & I even had left overs. I also ordered the KitKat cheesecake which was a delight as well, but again the pics were out dated as I really wanted the pistachio cheesecake shown online. Troy mentioned that he's been there 18 yrs. & they have never served it! I suggested their online presence needs updating & he answered that Google is charging too much for every change & are very uncooperative that way & that is why the pics are old. He says Google controls it all. So I guess Google just puts whatever pics they want to on there, weird. It borders on false advertising in my book, but the restaurant made it all good!! It's pricey, but well worth it. The restaurant is located upstairs via elevator at back of the bar & doesn't open til 4pm. The hours are also listed wrong online as well. I do see that there are 2 online listings, one for the Saloon no. 10 & one for the restaurant alone, " Deadwood social club", but they are in same building & space. I will definitely eat there again & hope I get Troy for my server. You can tell he likes eating there as well & I bet he's tried everything on the menu. At first when he came to my table to tell me my order could definitely be made without mushrooms, I thought he was the chef, but he said no, nice fella &...
Read moreI spent the better part of 4-hours walking around the historic area. Deadwood is known as the place where Jack McCall shot Wild Bill Hickok while he was playing poker in a saloon. I began my visit at the Welcome Center. You can park for free here and the historic area is just an easy walk away. Be sure to talk to the employees at the Welcome Center as they can give you great insight into just about every aspect of the Historic Town. Be sure to pick up a map, it will make life a lot easier. Once in historic town you will find several restaurants, casinos, shops, each with its own old west them. The one thing that added to my enjoyment was that all the casinos and restaurants were smoke free and really catered to tourists. Now most of the town burned to the ground a few years ago after Wild Bill was shot, so you must understand that none of the building were the ones here in 1876. None the less, the historic part of Deadwood has capitalized on is old west notoriety. I stopped at the original site of the #10 Saloon, which was where Wild Bill was shot while holding the Dead Man’s Hand of aces and eights. I was able to just walk in and watch the reenactment of Jack McCall shooting Wild Bill. It was definitely entertaining and worth seeing. After the reenactment, I had lunch here. Everybody was associated with the saloon was great and the food was really good. I even got to meet Wild Bill who stopped by to visit while I was eating. I enjoyed my visit to the #10 Saloon and to the Historic Town...
Read moreWe were extremely disappointed with the service, or lack thereof, at this restaurant. After traveling all day specifically to try this “popular” spot, we stood at the hostess stand for nearly 20 minutes with no acknowledgment. Eventually, an older woman briskly walked by and told us they were done seating people, this was at 7:30 PM, despite the website clearly stating they are open until 2:00 AM.
Her explanation? “We’re short staffed, and we sat our last table 20 minutes ago.” No apology. No concern. Just dismissal.
I completely understand staffing shortages and unexpected challenges. What I don’t understand is treating new customers so rudely and without any regard. A simple “I’m so sorry, we’re unable to seat more guests tonight” would have gone a long way. Instead, the interaction left us feeling like we weren’t worth the time of day.
Reputations can be strong, but it only takes one poor experience to turn people away and we’ll be sharing ours. Not only will we never attempt to return, but we’ll be letting friends, family, and fellow travelers know as well. Losing one table may not seem like much, but losing hundreds of potential future customers is a very real consequence of poor hospitality.
Kindness costs nothing. The hostess and leadership should take this as a reminder that in the food industry, no one’s reputation is too big to fail when customers are treated...
