We made the trip out from Kansas City to see our favorite podcast, My Brother My Brother and Me live. We were bubbling with excitement on the way there, and enjoyed seeing our show... HOWEVER
My Partner and I had a really awful experience with the security staff here. One of the security staff is a particularly nasty older man who kept haggling my partner, insisting that he had something on him and pushing him around once the walk through metal detector sounded. An older woman was standing beside with a handheld wand, but just proceeded to join in on the verbal abuse of my partner instead of... I don't know... use it? to find the root of the problem? My partner shuts down and stops talking because the haggling was getting to be a lot. I tried to help him and showed them that he still had his belt on. They continued to berate and yell at my partner about "some thing" he had on him that was getting the metal detector to go off.
The best part - What was all of this commotion for? AN ALTOIDS CAN. in his front pocket. They caused this scene for an Altoids can.
Upon leaving to find our seats, my partner tripped and fell flat on his face. The older woman with the wand that she didn't use proceeded to yell "Karma!" at my fallen partner. Classy, and safe huh?
This experience set the tone for our show, and no matter how we put it, even though we were really excited to see My Brother My Brother and Me, this experience and the screwed up staff really really really sucked. A disgusting and mentally jarring experience that could have been solved by using the wand to locate the metal item. The older man flung the altoids can back at my partner.
The theatre itself was alright, the bar staff was wonderful and kind, the mule I got for my partner to settle down after the experience was crisp and delicious. Our seats were good. The show was great. But, I can't get over the fact that security measures, that were supposed to keep this place safe simply made it unsafe, and aggressively unwelcoming. I didn't think it would be worth it write this if it were just us, but this terrible twosome proceeded to treat every other person who walked through the metal detector with the same, grossly agressive and antagonizing demeanor, haggling them and pushing them around, too. This is simply unacceptable. I understand, it's a rough job, but customers of the Buell Theatre deserve better, professional, THOROUGH and respectful treatment. Thorough means taking the wand out, patting down, and doing your job to resolve issues and keep the...

Whenever Mamma Mia! comes to Denver, we never miss it, it’s my mother’s all-time favorite musical, and this year’s performance at the Temple Hoyne Buell Theatre was truly top tier!
Christine Sherrill as “Donna” was simply breathtaking. Her vocal range and emotional depth had me holding my breath more than once. Amy Weaver brought a beautiful vulnerability to “Sophie” with her angelic voice, and Carly Sakolove lit up the stage with humor, charm, and undeniable presence, as "Rosie", she had the audience smiling from the moment she stepped onstage.
Jalynn Steele redefined “Tanya” with flair and fabulousness, she was a standout for me this season! The entire cast delivered outstanding performances, with such natural chemistry and timing that not a single moment felt forced.
Rob Marnell’s tender, sincere vocals added heart to “Harry (Head Banger),” while Jim Newman’s energy and harmonies blended seamlessly with the rest of the cast as "Bill", his vocal control and charisma truly shined. And of course, Victor Wallace was nothing short of incredible. I’ve had the pleasure of seeing him perform before, and his voice - rich, emotive, and powerful, never fails to move me.
I was blown away by this season’s cast and heartbroken that I couldn’t squeeze in one more performance before the curtain falls for another year. If you have the chance to see this production, do not miss it. It’s everything live theatre should be, joyful, heartfelt, and unforgettable. We were on our feet dancing and singing along at...
Read moreThe Denver Center Performing Arts Complex is a fabulous complex of theaters in downtown Denver. I LOVE going to this complex. The Buell Theatre is one of those in this beautiful complex.
The Buell Theatre is for large scale musicals and Broadway plays. Believe me, when you see a performance here, you will NOT be disappointed. My husband and I are season ticket holders once again, and are not disappointed!
The inside of the Buell is beautiful, comfortable, and just breath-taking. There are approximately 2800 seats in the theatre, which are fairly comfortable. The seats are tight, especially when someone wants to walk by your seat after you have sat down, but that's normal, so I'm not complaining. The perimeter around the actual theatre, is very comfortable, with plenty of nice seating areas, in which you can grab a drink, relax, and enjoy the view out the window wall, out into the interior of the complex. It's especially beautiful in the winter time, when it's snowing, or during the holidays, when it's all decorated.
There is a private parking garage, and you will have to pay to park, so have some cash or a credit card with you. Get there early, several hours before you performance, so you can get a parking space lower down. The higher you park (on the upper levels), means you have to wait longer to get out once the performance is over. But hey, you didn't hear that from me! (smile!).
I can't say enough about the entire complex, or the Buell Theatre. I Love It, and feel special, like it's a special celebration,...
