I want to begin by stating that we chose Le Meridien for our wedding, spending nearly $30,000 on our event, but the experience was far from what we had anticipated or deserved. As someone who works in luxury travel and has spent my career in hospitality, I have never encountered such a disregard for guest needs and professional standards.
To start, the event staff was generally pleasant, though there seemed to be a lack of training on safe alcohol service. While the Event Director, Dawn, did her best to manage the situation, she was consistently undermined by the hotel staff, who were unresponsive and disorganized.
The most concerning issue, however, was the behavior and lack of professionalism from the hotel’s management and staff:
Poor Communication & Customer Service: The hotel rarely answered calls. One of our guests called multiple times over the weekend and was told, quite simply, that “they do not answer the phone on weekends.” This level of disregard for guest concerns is unacceptable.
Contracted Room Sold Out from Under Us: The hotel sold a room that was specifically contracted for our event the night before the wedding, leaving us with no option but to move, and in the process, we had to relocate and rearrange event space furniture ourselves in order to make room for my bridesmaids and me to get ready. This was not only inconvenient but highly unprofessional.
Inappropriate and Disrespectful Communication: The Assistant General Manager, Tyler, sent several rude and unprofessional emails and texts to myself, my husband, and my mother regarding damage to a room that none of us were even in. We had no responsibility for this room, yet the hotel continued to attempt unauthorized charges—$3,000 worth—despite the fact that we had already paid in full for the wedding, rooms, and meals as outlined in the contract. Additionally, they refused to provide us with a room receipt despite multiple requests—myself and my mother have asked at least 10 times, and we've been ignored each time.
Unsafe and Uncontrolled Alcohol Service: One of our guests was severely overserved by the bar staff, to the point where other service industry professionals were concerned. This guest was allowed to drink excessively without intervention, creating an unsafe and uncomfortable situation for other attendees.
Lack of Proper Event Signage and Security: Despite numerous requests for a sign indicating that the second floor was closed for our private event, there was no such signage. As a result, a range of individuals, including one who was intoxicated and aggressive, were allowed access to our private event space without any security intervention. This made our guests feel unsafe and disrupted the flow of the event.
In summary, this hotel has completely failed to meet even basic standards of service or respect for its paying guests. I am deeply disappointed by the handling of our wedding event, especially given the significant investment we made. My hope is that this review will shed light on the issues we've faced and prevent others from having to endure the...
Read moreStayed here early September 2023 for 3 nights as an Ambassador Elite Bonvoy member. Check-in experience was very underwhelming as the lady checking us in seemed like we were bothering her just by being there. I did witness other front desk staff checking in other guests who seemed to be much more friendly and enthusiastic though.
Prior to arriving I had asked for a room upgrade as we were travelling for my Fiancés birthday and was noted they would upgrade us and do something special for the occasion. The room we received was just a higher floor and a view of other buildings. No suites were available, which is understandable given it was labor day weekend. I had previously read reviews noting the small rooms and odd bathroom set up so was not surprised by this. The open concept bathroom didn’t really bother us, but I could see how some guests might not like it. It is basically just one open room with a mirror separating the sink from the bed with the toilet in a small closet-like area (with a sliding door). The room was quite small though and doesn’t offer much more than a place to sleep.
As I mentioned, the hotel had noted prior that they would do something special for my Fiancés birthday, so my expectations were peaked. When we arrived to the room, there was nothing. Not even a card, which is rare as an Ambassador. The hotel GM emailed me on our second day and asked how the stay was going so I mentioned this. He was very responsive and polite and they had sent up some wine and other treats. It was a very thoughtful gesture and my Fiancé enjoyed it. I appreciated his willingness to make right the situation.
My favourite aspect of this hotel was Corrine’s, the onsite restaurant. As a platinum and above member, we received a 25$/ person (50 total) voucher per day. This pretty much covered breakfast. The food was quite good, and the vouchers can be used until 2pm for brunch as well which was convenient as we had lunch there on the day we checked-in. I suggest making reservations though as it gets quite busy.
I was really looking forward to the rooftop bar, but felt a bit underwhelmed. It was very busy, which is understandable, but once they let you in for your reservation (which can only be made by going up there), you’re on your own to find yourself a table, which was almost impossible. So we were left to stand in the sun. The views are pretty good though, but not as good as I thought they would be.
Location is pretty good and the immediate area appeared safe. Can walk to most areas downtown, but some streets should be used cautiously due to the homelessness situation. Not the hotels fault though.
Overall I would recommend this hotel, however you need to be ok with the room/...
Read moreMarriott & the hotel manager responded to the email right away but did nothing to resolve the problem. I never had any issues with Marriott so far until my stay at Le Meridien in Downtown Denver, CO. The front desk staff should be knowledgeable on how asking for extension for the next day works, instead of telling guests to book a completely new reservation just to stay for a few more HOURS esp when other hotels can accommodate that or temporarily place my luggage in storage. Too bad I fell for it, so I had to pay another day’s worth of reservation to keep my luggage in a room that I didn’t even touch the next day. I also could not check out of the mobile app and when the same front desk person checked me out of the hotel the next day, she told me they HAD to wait until MIDNIGHT to check me out and the hotel bill did not officially check me out of the room until past 2PM PST the next day.
She would have known that I should have only been prorated for the extension and not have to pay a full night, because she could not check me out of the room until after midnight. If I would have known that, I would have had a homeless person stay in that room until check-out time the next day since it was paid for without anyone using that room.
There are too many hotel options to have one give me issues and I have never had this problem with other Marriott brands/hotels and definitely not the other competitor brands either, so I am disappointed that I was just ignored about this issue and that I was misled into thinking I needed to book another night for a room that I only used as storage for a few more hours after my initial reservation. I will definitely never stay at this hotel again.
The basic rooms are also small, so it’s perfect for storage & want the basic options. The sink area looks cute but they don’t have enough space to work around unlike other hotels. The food portions & options at Corrine are small too and have limited/no vegan options. The rooftop bar is great but most of it is covered by the taller Hyatt hotel across the street. There are too many hotel options in this area, so now I know to avoid this one next time. This is my worst experience at any hotel so far & this is supposed to be a 4-star hotel. I have received better customer service, better rooms & amenities at other places, even the ones not...
