After being not permitted to leave Ontario for two year lock down we (my wife and I and Sadie our dog) where finally ready to go south again to our home in Arizona. Our retirement plan had been to buy a house in AZ and be snow birds which we had enjoyed for several years. We finally got to visit my wife s family two weeks prior crossing at Gananoque to N.Y. with no problems. My wife is American citizen with landed immigrant status. We have been married for 40 years in Canada. I am a retire police officer. Neither one of us chose to be vaccinated for covid. As we still live in our cottage in Ontario for the summer it is not built for winter living. For the last two years we had no running water, we got buckets of water from a hole cut in the lake which were heated on a wood stove. It took two weeks to ready ourselves to go to AZ, winterizing the cottage, getting out of country insurance all the things necessary to leave. After a 6-7 hrs drive to Ambassador crossing we were refused entry due to my vaccination status. We were misinformed about the us entry rules and have already crossed one. Our understanding was no flights only for unvaccinated only. I know not knowing the rules is on us, although it is hard to get correct information on line. Thing is , the same custom control people that operate on the boarders both north and south should follow the same rules. There are thousands of immigrants illegally crossing the boarder to the south, im sure non or few are vaccinated or even legal in any way. I am 75 years old with cancer and have already lost two of my retirement years to Ontario mandates, now i am turned back for one reason, i am unvaccinated. This may be legal but is not right in any ways. PLS NOTE I wrote this for the wrong crossing, its for the Ambassador bridge crossing. Also, i have been added as a person of interest any time i attempt to cross into the US...

I have never felt so disrespected about an experience in my life. Yesterday midday i crossed through the detroit-windsor border through greyhound travelling to new york for my boyfriends birthday, for the first time might i had im new to this and obviously the laws online can only tell you so much. Upon entering baggage check i declared my items and was immediately met with aggression and the most unnecessary questions, immediately after was sent to second check and then harassed for hours on end from the officers present. My phone was tahout i was seperated from my partner brought to a private room and body checked which felt extremely violating, was accused and called a liar all just for bringing my OWN equipment with me , meanwhile another rider on the bus had a huge bag of THC gummies and they let him go through? They made the greyhound leave us there continued to antagonize us and called me a liar when i was telling nothing but the truth, kept trying to get us for something else accusing me and my boyfriend of bringing over THC product when we dont use and thenwhen they couldnt find anything on us they refused entry into the states. I was told theyd be sending us back on a bus to toronto considering we were 5 hours away from the city. THEY PUT US ON A WINDSOR BUS AND LEFT US STRANDED. It was -19° outside , what if i was in a position i wasnt able to get a hotel? That is so insanely dangerous and never in my life would i expect government officials to act this way. On top of all this they flagged me for whenever i cross the border again and had the audacity to tell me if i tried again today they would ban me for 5 years. Overall if you dont wanna experience degrading harassment, cross through a different port. and dont let me forget the amount of caucasian families i seen go through while sitting through these hours without getting their bags checked...

A while back I was going to Ceasars and to visit a friend in Windsor, Ontario. I'm a frequent traveler to Canada and most of the time the officers on the Canadian side are super friendly and cordial. However, one day on a routine crossing the woman at the booth was unusually vigilant in questioning me. When I didn't just tell her everything she wanted to know immediately she sent me to secondary inspection, "we're gonna have a look". Most of the other officers were once again cordial but the lone female officer found my old cell phone that I keep in my gym bag for emergencies. She turned it on and asked for my password, I didn't remember the password but could unlock it from muscle memory. I stepped off the curb to reach for the phone to unlock it for her, she then yelled "back on the curb!". I put one foot on the curb while backing up and she yelled "all the way up!". I wasn't threatening her, just trying to unlock the phone. After I did she scrolled through my photos and saw my pictures from the Grand Canyon. Then proceeded to show her colleagues as if it was show 'n tell. It's one thing to look for security purposes but to pass my phone/ photos around from my vacation was unprofessional and an abuse of authority. I'm not misogynistic but on that day the 2 female officers that I encountered were unpleasant for whatever reason. I'm a frequent traveler and this wasn't consistent with my other crossings...

The Detroit-Windsor Tunnel is an underwater highway tunnel connecting Detroit, Michigan, and Windsor, Ontario, facilitating international travel between the United States and Canada. Opened in 1930, it is one of the busiest border crossings in North America, offering a convenient and direct route for commuters and tourists alike. If you don't have a car, you can use public transport or a taxi.

I enjoy taking the tunnel over the bridge any day of the week. The tunnel moves much faster although not the Greatest of views. It goes under ground so it's not sitting on top of the river floor like a lot of people think. The tunnel is perfectly safe and has a reliable ventilation system run by redundant Rockwell Automation PLCs.
