I should have written this a long time ago. But, now this situation is getting to be more and more dangerous for me and my family. Parts of this review are the same thing I sent to the dealership. In a nutshell, my family and I are at risk every time we get in this vehicle, there has been a number of request made to GM to take action before serious injures occurs or a life is lost. Here is what I wrote in a previous review on the dealership, who now tells me they need GM to take action. I purchased this vehicle 10/18/2013 in good faith that I was getting a great machine. Although I bought my vehicle uses, I never expected to experience what I have up to this day! When I bought my vehicle, and had some problems 2 days later. Trusting that it truly was a GM certified vehicle, I was back at the dealership to let them know this vehicle was sputtering and shaking when I'm sitting at a light, it would act like it was going to cut off on me. There was a hesitation when I attempted to take off. I and was told “You just need to get use to the car, and the car needs to get use to you". Two day before Thanksgiving last year, I came out of the store and started the vehicle only for it to shut off and completely lost power. Having had the conversation previously with the salesman, that I feared getting stranded, when I called them that night, he said “You called it, you said that was your biggest fear". The car was towed in to the dealership, when I picked up, I was told it was the fuel pump that caused the vehicle to loose power, now I'm no mechanic but that didn't sound right to even me. Over the past year, this vehicle has been back at the dealership on several occasions, for as long as nearly a month at least 2 of those time. They have not been able to find the problem but yet have fixed something on this vehicle. There is something wrong with this car that it shakes and shut off the way it does. Most recently when making a turn the vehicle decreases in acceleration power, while in the turn, when I'm taking off from being stopped at a light or stop sign it's slow to move once it does it gives off a jerk and then takes off. I have been in the middle of driving when I suddenly feel the vehicle is decelerating as if it's slowing down on its own. I drive this vehicle everyday fearing for my life, especially when any of my family members or friends is in the car with me. Since my frightening experiences over the past few days after coming off the expressway while waiting to make my turn, this vehicle shut off. I was able to get it started again, but decided to return home instead of continuing to my destination. 2/16/15: Since the last entry I made regarding my car, it has been back at the dealership twice. As of Friday 2/13/15 I was told the timing chain was being repaired to fix the problem and that I would be all set to go. However I received a call today that said, the timing chain repair didn't fix the problem. Now, I'm really afraid of driving that car. I feel like this need to be told to get it out there before something happens to me.
This story must be told before...
Read moreI would rate my experience no higher than 2 stars, and that's being generous. Shortly after booking my original stay, I extended it by one more day. Upon arrival, there was minor confusion at the front desk, but they assured me everything was sorted.
Despite being given three room keys (since I’ve historically had issues), only one actually worked for both the elevator and my room.
On the second to last day, I returned to my room after lunch to grab my things for a conference being held at the hotel. However, my keys stopped working. The housekeepers next door kindly tried to assist, but the door reader had died. One of them radioed for assistance, telling me help would arrive ASAP.
After waiting 15 minutes, I called the front desk on my phone, only to be placed on hold for 5 minutes. I then used a landline near the elevator to contact them again. They assured me someone was on the way. After another 15 minutes with no sign of help, I called again. This time, I was told I had to go downstairs to recheck in due to my extended stay and that someone would be sent up to fix the dead battery while I did that.
Frustrated but compliant, I headed down to the front desk, explained the situation, and was met with a curt and dismissive attitude from the associate. She informed me I needed my ID and credit card to check back in—both of which were locked in my room. After sighing and acting inconvenienced, she finally rechecked me in and handed me two new keys.
As I left, I still made sure to thank her for her help, only for her to sarcastically yell “You’re welcome!” from across the lobby as I walked away. Completely unprofessional.
Upon returning to my room, the door was still broken. I called the front desk yet again. The manager apologized and assured me someone was on the way. Another 15 minutes passed before the manager arrived to confirm the door was, in fact, broken. I then had to wait another 10 minutes for maintenance.
In total, it took a full hour and a half to get back into my room. The maintenance worker was the only person who handled the situation professionally and with any kind of empathy. The rest of the staff made me feel like an inconvenience the entire time.
This was far from a 5-star experience, and honestly, not even deserving of 2 stars. I won’t be returning and certainly can’t recommend this...
Read moreOne of my favorite places in Michigan. I have many good memories here and making new ones. GM’s inclusion of everyone is unbelievable. Handicap access to everything, they even have made wheelchair accessible booths for doing work on a laptop with a beautiful view. Seeing the palm trees brings a warm feeling to my heart. I won’t be able to travel far enough to see them outside, so I’m very grateful just be able to have them here in Michigan. There are a lot of eateries around this area as are some shops. BIG reminder! Look on the RenCen website for parking discounts. There are 3 restaurants that allow you to get valet parking at a huge discount. If you don’t eat but shop instead, the site gives you the information needed on purchase amount and where to get a discount off of a parking garage. I typically park across Beaubien Blvd. at SP+ Parking. I’ve always gotten a good spot and it’s the least expensive garage close by that I’ve found. The interior of the RenCen has many cars and welcomes you with a huge sign in all languages. There is a conveyer in the middle that goes around showing off some of GM history with electric vehicles and the screens in the middle show a huge aquarium at times, many stories high. It is safe and has a wonderful outside area that leads to the riverside. You can see Canada and relax in one of the unique and comfortable chairs by the water. Also there are eateries in a cafeteria type environment like Burger King and some others. Not everything is always open, so if you have your heart set on an eatery or shop, call ahead or look them up on the net to see if they’re open when you plan to visit. Within walking distance are both The Joe Louis and Spirit of Detroit Monuments. I’ve never stayed at the Marriott inside the RenCen, but going here even for the day, is a day...
